An essential trip. The train is small but not as tiny as the words Toy Train might imply! Not uncomfortable but quite basic. It stops three or four times and you can buy strong tea, pakora and rolls on the station. It’s a long, long journey - 5.5 hours. The view is somewhat better seated on the right of the carriage, especially at the beginning but it winds around. Over 100 tunnels. Although the view is stunning it’s quite hard to photograph as the trees grow right by the track.

But if you wants tea then you face little bit sadness because only one shop and even that shop not in station shades out shades.

They provide typical babuji feel. Like tea ni milege or something jo h ayse he look like new nahi banege.

Means look like monopoly type because there is not any another shop.

Machine tea avilable many shops but authentic only one.

But I forgot it because experience is good

It's a good small station mainly to have a connecting toy train to Shimla. You can find some hotels nearby this station but for that you need to walk outside straight for 10-15 minutes.
This station has paid executive lounge which is 20₹ per hour per person. For this you need to have a valid PNR and the amount needs to be paid on booking counter.

Kalka Shimla Railway, a part of mountain railway of India, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site (declared in 2008).
It's built in 1903, a marvelous engineering example, consists of 100+ tunnels, The rail network holds the Guinness Book of World Records for its 96 kilometers steepest rise in the altitude with crossover of 800 bridges and viaducts.

Best place to travel from Kalka to Shimla in toy train had the best experience ever it takes all most 7hrs to reach Shimla by toy train but it one the best experience ever that you will be getting in past 7rs the best mountains, tunnels, there are 104 tunnels I Guess but the best place to travel in toy train

Kalka Railway act as terminating point for broad gauge railway line of Indian Railways and originating point for Kalka Shimla toy line.

Kalka is the originating railway station of the Kalka Shimla Railway (KSR). The part of the station catering to KSR is quite well maintained and gives a good feel of the journey one is about to undertake. It has many beautiful paintings adoring its walls giving the purview of the passage lying ahead. The sitting area is also very quaint. One can also see Hydraulic Buffers of 1927 era and which are still functional and are in use.
It would be a good idea to come at least 60 minutes before the departure of the train to go around the station and have a look around the station including few historic artifacts.

Its a Small beautiful decorated station and last stoppage of broad gauge line . to reach shimla from here you have to catch toy train which will drop at shimla in next 4-6 hours. TCs & stuffs here are very friendly and they check the booked ticket on platform of each of people before boarding on toy train . there are many toy trains available including famous Shivalik deluxe, KALKA SHIMLA EXPRESS, RAIL MOTOR etc. Here some tea , snack stalls are available too and they deliver your food at your coach up to which train is stood on station . On the back of this station there are big green hills too which makes its environment more scenic...Also from the out side of the station you can hire a private car or get into a Bus to reach to shimla in 1-2 hours.

Very well maintained and clean. The announcement were made on time and clear. The waiting area were properly maintained. There is very less rush and annoying taxi driver were not present.

Kalka railway station is the part of kalka Simla Himalayan heritage railways which is 100s of years old and still being run by the Indian railways, the place is beautiful and you can catch toy trains from here for shimla right from 5am in the morning .
The connectivity with new delhi is very good as you have kalka shatabdi and other trains running daily to and fro .

It is the last broad gauge railway station way to Shimla, the summer capital of India during British Raj. Narrow gauge toy train line starts from this station connecting Kalka and Shimla. The entire line passes through the majestic Himalaya's mountainous terrain with a spectacular scenic views of sky scrapping mountains and steep valley running side by side. In its six hour journey the train passes through 102 tunnels and bridges. Kalka-Shimla railway is added in World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

This station is having 3 platforms. Very clean station. Very good cab service is there. Food are available at station. Toy train from kalka to Shimla runs from here. Passengers comming from Delhi will be connected into this train and reach shimla easily. From here u can get taxi to Nalagarh , Baddi and other place. Good greenery is there. Also Nalagarh fort is near to kalka station.

It was a great pleasure visiting this station because it is the beginning point of UNESCO World Heritage sight. The station is well maintained and the best thing is that, Kalka station has both broad and narrow gauge in very close proximity...

Very well maintained and clean station.
Although, I would like to share my thoughts. I spent about 3 hours here waiting for my train, observing people here and there. An aged man (station staff) spent a lot of time cleaning the platform the whole afternoon untill the platform was absolutely clean. But, when the train arrived there was litter all over. From plastic water bottles, wrappers, etc and the platform was dirty again. The station staff again came back and picked each and every wrapper from the platform and the track.

People, it's my humble request not to dirty our surroundings like this. It is our duty and responsibility as good citizens not to just throw litter all around. Dustbins are provided in all the places and one must use them.

Kalka is the beautiful city of the Panchkula t of haryana located on the border of Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. it has the beautiful railway station having both Type of trains one is passanger and other is toy train which connects Shimla Kalka Train UNESCO world heritage site. awesome weather of the city. i have stayed four days here. Here you can find affordable and reasonable hotel rooms here to stay. Hotels and restaurants are delivered delicious food at reasonable prices.
