Moghalmari is a small village in the district of West Midnapore & a famous archaeological excavation site. It is located beside Kolaghat - Cuttack highway (NH 60).The excavation here is started in 2002 & revealed the presence of Buddhist monastery dated between 6 th to 12 th century. It is connected through road and rail. If you go by rail from Howrah you have to go to Kharagpur first & then from Kharagpur you have to go further to Nikursini railway station. From Nikursini it is approx 3km. If you go by road from Kolkata you first have to take NH 6 & then NH 60. Moghalmari is just a stone's throw away from NH 60. We found the historical excavation site & lot of excavated replicas & specis in the museum there. We also noticed a rural village market or haat there also.

The village of Moghalmari in the eastern Indian state of West Bengal is a site of historical and archaeological significance that reflects the colorful history of the Bengal region. Among the most interesting archaeological remains is the Moghalmari Monastery Buddhist heritage site (also known as Dantapur Buddhist Monastery), which was documented in the travel journal of the Chinese Buddhist monk and scholar Xuanzang (c. 602–64), who famously made a 17-year overland journey to India. In recent years, it has returned to the limelight thanks to the work of Professor Asok Datta (1947–2012) of the University of Calcutta’s Department of Archaeology, who identified this expansive historical site as an early medieval Buddhist settlement believed to have flourished from the 6th–12th century.

Mogalmari is a village and an archaeological excavation site in the Paschim Medinipur district of West Bengal. Xuanzang was a Chinese Buddhist monk, scholar and adventurer who travelled to India in the seventh century and described the interaction between Chinese Buddhism and Indian Buddhism during the early Tang dynasty. During the journey he visited many sacred Buddhist sites in what are now Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bangladesh. This Mogalmari was one of his visit location.
