This temple was built in the 18th century during the region of Sri Raja Vasireddy Venkatadri Naidu Bahadur. During the administration of Mr. Raja Vasireddy Venkatadri Naidu, road robberies and thefts were happening, people were scared and demanded that these robberies should be stopped and they should be punished appropriately. And it is believed that Sri Raja Vasireddy Venkatadri Naidu, who had severely punished some thieves, could not tolerate peace of mind or even food and drink, so he wanted to atone for this and built temples. Considering that rice is the form of Parabrahma, even though there are no temples for Brahma, a temple for Brahma was built in Koneru and the temple was named as Chaturmukha Brahmalingeswara Swamy. Morning abhishekams are specially done in Adivams on Thursdays for the planetary value of Guru, who is the presiding deity of Brahma for the planet Jupiter. Sri Sahasralingeswara Swami Vari Devasthanam (East and West Shiva Temples). Sri Ranganadha Swamy's Devasthanam on the south side and Sri Venugopala Swamy's Devasthanam on the North side. Octagonal with Sri Ammavarla Temples on the four corners and Sri Chaturmukha Brahmalingeswara Swami's Devasthanam is enshrined in Koneru in the middle. There is a Sri Brahma temple in Chebrolu village in the state of Andhra Pradesh in southern India and a Sri Brahma temple in Pushkar in the state of Rajasthan. This temple is under the supervision of the Department of Archeology and is being administered by the Executive Officer of the State Devadaya Charity Department.

This is one of the five major historic temples and monasteries in Chebrolu, quite possibly the most picturesque. It sits within the serene reflective waters of the temple tank, a symmetric square plan architecture from 7th to 8th century just feels harmonious as the light, sky and shadows play with the geometry.

There is walkway across the temple tank to the sanctum platform (similar to the Golden temple in Amritsar). On a square open space sits a square mandapa on a thin pitha (platform). Twelve pillars form a covered mandapa that also works as pradakshinapatha (circumambulation passage). Right in the center of this is the square sanctum. The vimana and superstructure is Dravida style, yet the aedicules here on the walls of are Nagara (north Indian) style. The Gajalakshmi is delicately carved on the lalitabimba (lintel) of the sanctum doorway. The Shiva linga inside the sanctum has four faces (chaturmukha), with each face showing a seated yogi which is unusual. Also unusual is the yoni that is bowl-shaped (inverted kamala or lotus). The top of the linga too is a sophisticated masterpiece of artwork. Outside, you will see several Sanskrit inscriptions in Telugu script, which helps date and trace the history of this temple and Chebrolu as a Hindu pilgrimage site.

Chaturmukha Brahma Temple is located at Chebrolu in Guntur District of Andhra Pradesh. Here the presiding deity Lord Brahma with four faces. A specialty of this temple is Lord Brahma is worshiped along with Lord Shiva. Chebrolu brahma temple was built about 200 years ago. This is one of the few temples dedicated to Lord Brahma although he is worshiped along with Lord Shiva.According to Purana's Lord Brahma was cursed by Bhrugu Maharshi that he would not be worshiped on the earth which is the reason why a Shiva Lingam with carvings of Brahma Deva on its four sides was consecrated here, instead of separated idols for him. A Shiva Linga situated on the midpoint of 4 faces. This is a beautiful temple situated in the midst of a tank surrounded by two small temples of Lord Shiva towards the east and west and that of Vishnu in the north and south and four temples of goddess Sakti in the four corners manifested in different incarnations. It has Shri Nageswara Swamy and Shri Bhimeswara Swamy temples in close proximity. It is believed that these temples were built between the ninth and 14th centuries.

The Chaturmukha Brahmalingeswara Swamy temple was built by Raja Vasireddy Venkatadri Naidu, about 200 years ago, is one of the few temples dedicated to Lord Brahma, although he is worshipped here along with Lord Shiva. Various terracotta figures, two coins, and a number of inscriptions of Chola leaders like Velanadu Cholas have established the historical record of this place. The name chaturmukha means four faces and here the lord is embodied with four faces, making it one of the unique temples of Lord Brahma in India.
The Brahmalingeshwara temple also contains the tiny shrines, which is located at the center point of the temple tank. The prime god is Shiva Linga, which includes four faces of Lord Brahma.
It is said that Lord Brahma was cursed by Bhrugu Maharshi that he would not be worshipped on earth which is the reason why a Shivalinga with carvings of Brahma on its four sides was consecrated here, instead of a separate idols for him.

It was quite an ancient temple one must visit when they are in Andhra Pradesh. Though the water surrounded by the temple are not clean but the temple got very rich history and being only two Brahma temples exist in India Varanasi and Chebrolu. We had a great time in the temple and darshanam was very spectacular.

It is the only one temple in India for Chaturmukha Brahma. It's an old temple but still it is in good condition. Water around the temple is look like as Lake. Recently in feb, 2016, Dharmakartha of this temple remodeled the temple using the name 'Punah Prathishta'.

A must watch temple when u visit chebrolu.

Loved the temple. Need to plan another proper visit. I went to this temple on a improper schedule. That too during closing hours that's 8pm. 23/03/2018. There are various deities located in the premises. Fascinating history and mystery is associated with the temple.
