It is an archeological site built in the 16th Century by Mohammad Adil Shah, who was the 07th ruler of the Dynasty. His remains alongside his two wives, two kids and the 08th ruler are kept.

The monument is built using Indo Islamic architecture. The ruler was quite secular to which he added elements of Hindu Architecture and Islamic architecture while building the monument.

There is a whispering gallery wherein you can say something onto one side of the wall and the other person can hear it on the other side of the wall. Voice also echoes.

There is a museum as well wherein you can see pottery, painting, armours, daggers and weapons of mediaeval times.

Unfortunately, it's not well marketed otherwise this monument alone can change the fortune of this city.

Very nice place to visit in Vijaypura. In fact while driving thru this place we planned a night stay just so that we can see this monument. It's big and while the climb up inside the dome is a bit strenuous but it's absolutely worth it. The whispering gallery is incredible, you can hear the mildest whisper on the opposite side! The whole area incld the gardens are well maintained by ASI.
Few tips:
1. Try and get there early in the morning, this opens at 7am. There will be hardly any people at this time so you can enjoy the Whispering gallery!
2. There is huge car parking area at the entrance.
3. Photography is allowed inside the monument as well.
4. Do keep looking at the surrounding scenery after every floor. That'll keep you fresh and motivated!

First most important thing. This place is open from Sunrise till sunset and not what Google says. The best time to visit this place is at 6 am because then you can really experience the multiple echo and the clarity to hear the whisper even at a distance of 37mts. These two effects are mind blowing and must be experienced. During the day time visitors scream and yell and one goes mad by the noise level. Please visit early morning and the experience is amazing.

A precious gift from our brave predecessor! Its an alarming structure that puts hundreds of wonders in maths, science, architect, civil engineering, sound engineering and so on. How did they calculated its arithmetic? Its a wonderful experience to watc it from out, in and standing over its balcony. Visitors do make noise and enjoy its echo. Its open at 7 am and close at 6 pm. Rs 25 is charged as entrance fee. Steps are hundreds in numbers and climbing and experiencing at least once in life is worthy experience. I🙏 to our great ancestors 🙏🙏🙏

Must visit.
To enjoy the great monument, to enjoy its echoing capabilities, it's recommended to go very early like 6.30 AM - 7.30 AM when people are less, because later in the day, everybody will be shouting with loud voices to hear the echo, finally they end up creating chaos and nobody can hear any echo !
Go for a guide, it will be worth it to understand the history of gol gumbaz and certain interesting details which are explained by showing the monument. I bet you don't observe those intricacies unless told by someone.

Also, you get an aerial view of the city.

It is great monumental masterpiece with various aspects. It will be always great to visit these place to understand the great work done in the past. The suggestion is to avoid weekends due to rush hour and always double check to buy the tickets for both museum and the Gol Gumbaz. A place worth visit due to availability and maintenance of lawn to rest and enjoy the visit. I would recommend this place to anyone. Please make you do not take anything edible which is not allowed inside.

Beautiful monument!!

Amazing to see such a huge dome, standing tall, with extremely large and wide walls, without any center pillers. Great architecture!!. Unfortunate, name of architect is unknown.

It's a tomb of Mohammad Adil Shah of Adil Shahi dynasty who ruled bijapur in 17 century.

The whispering gallery is amazing. It is recorded that, even the smallest whisper can be heard anywhere in the gallery and it reflects 7 times. We could not experience the intricate features as other visitors were making loud and irritating noises, which gets reflected multiple times in the gallery and becomes unbearable noise altogether.

It was a mesmerizing experience regarding the whispering hall, awesome architecture, un-explainable building style, especially the tomb on the roof is wonderful though it is a tomb of Adilshah and his family we have a wonderful monument at its peak. The surroundings are well maintained with a greenery area. Overall a most memorable day.

A beautifully built historical architecture....a must visit place of bijapur...
This is the second largest dome of the world known as gol gumbazz..
It has a Ticket of INR 25 and separate fee is there if you want to take selfie stick or camera inside..

To see the the view from gol gumbazz you need to climb very steep and small stairs so that you can reach to fourth floor to have a glimpse of the city.....Going upstairs is worth but not suggested for old people or people having knee problem.... Carry water along with you if going upstairs..

Also there is a beautiful garden outside and lot of peacocks too....There is a museum also which closes at 4.30pm.... but gol gumbazz is open till 5pm....

Queue is not there, so no worries but yes it's a little crowded when you climb stairs..

Absolutely amazing piece of architecture. It is 500 plus years old and world’s second biggest dome structure. I don’t know how they used to build such things in past. It is so big that you can see it while you are driving towards it from 20 miles away. Once you go close, it just mesmerizes you. Go early morning right when it opens at 10 am. It is closed on Fridays. Buying ticket at that time won’t be difficult. Parking will also be available and less crowd. Kids will scream a lot inside the dome so you can’t enjoy its beauty standing inside for long. Security guard will force you to quickly move around. You need to remove your shoes before entering it so I carried mine in hands. I didn’t climb to the top as heat was too much and I don’t do heights very well. If you tolerate heat and can do height then definitely climb up seven floors and visit the dome. The acoustical engineering there is mind blowing. Take a guide with you who will show you all acoustic marvels of the dome. How did they do all these engineering back then blows my mind away. This is a must visit place if you are in this area of the country. We stayed at the Sarovar hotel in Solapur from where Gol Gumbaz is two hours drive. Roads are smooth and reaching by car won’t be a big hassle.

Entry ticket for Indians is 20 rupees and for foreigners it is 250 rupees. In five rupees extra you can see the museum which is in the first building before you can enter to see the Gol Gumbaz.

One of the most fascinating structures you will come across if you chose to climb a narrow 2 feet wide, pretty steep staircase going 7 floors up. Once there, you are inside the hollow gumbaz and it's huge inside. The hollow gumbaz also makes for a whispering gallery with a loud echo of the faintest sound. You can effectively chat with a person sitting on the other end of the gumbaz as if they were sitting next to you. Worth the climb even though it may feel dangerous and claustrophobic at times.

Gol Gumbaz is an imposing mausoleum that displays the architectural brilliance of the bygone eras. It houses the remains of Mohammad Adil Shah, seventh sultan of the Adil Shahi dynasty, and some of his relatives. Its vast dome is said to be the Second Largest Dome, unsupported by pillars, in the world, after St. Peter’s in the Vatican City of Rome.It is constructed in such a way that even a pin drop can be heard distinctly from across a space of 38 m, in the Whispering Gallery. The acoustics here are such that any sound made is said to be repeated 10 times over. The stairs to reach the whispering gallery are extremely narrow and it is completely dark inside it. Be extra cautious while coming down as the surfaces of the steps are uneven and quite steep.
Entry with bags are not permitted here. A cloak room is available beside the ticket counter. With an additional fee of Rs 20 you can drop your bags there.

A very good place to visit and learn about history. You need to climb 150 steps approximately to get to the top of gol gumbaz. This is little difficult for old age people but it is recommended for others to try it. The architecture is so beautiful and the top floor is built in such a way where it echoes 7 times every time you speak with higher decibel. Apart from that, there is a beautiful museum at the entrance of gol gumbaz which is a must visit. This museum will be closed on Friday so plan accordingly. A great place to take your kids and teach them history practically showing them.
