The State Botanical Garden spreads over an area of 75 ha. It is situated in the sylvan settings of the moist deciduous forest of the sprawling green Nandankanan sanctuary hemmed between two wetlands. The Botanical Garden was established in the year 1963 and was under the management of Horticulture Department. The management of the State Botanical Garden was transferred to Nandankanan on 1st August 2006. One would be definitely impressed by the nature’s symphony and the exquisite touch of the wilderness here. This is one of the pioneering plant conservation and nature education centre of the State. The State Botanical Garden is sure to provide memorable experience to the green enthusiasts. The State Botanical Garden is situated inside Nandankanan wildlife sanctuary. Kiakani Lake with an area about 25 ha. is located inside the State Botanical Garden.

A beautiful place to visit in capital city! The garden is divided into many satellite gardens such as Palm Garden, Rose Garden, Bougainvillea Garden, Glass House, Philodendron House, Cactus House, Carnivorous Plant Garden, Butterfly Park, Orchid House, Japanese Garden, Hibiscus Garden etc. This garden was previously managed by Horticultural Dept. of Odisha, later the ownership was transferred to Nandankanan in 2006.

There are interpretation centres depicting information on flora and fauna. One can find toilets/washroom and drinking water centres at almost all satellite gardens.

There is a water fountain in Butterfly Park with magnificently cut out garden layouts. One can spot various species of butterflies here. Bonsai is one such gardening technique employed here. The landscape provides green vegetation to the whole location. Picnic spots for temporary stay and cooking are also present.

This protected area is actually an amalgamation of wetland, biosphere reserve and sanctuary. Kiakani Lake has boating facility (cost is 50/- for 2) and electric rope (cost is 120/- per person) facilities for tourists.

Rare, endangered, threatened, indigenous, exotic plants are grown abundantly here under standard guidelines with an aim to conserve floral biodiversity. Every species has a placard attached to it depicting its botanical, local and English names. Few examples are Arrowhead sp., Opuntia sp., Cactus sp. etc. The variety of protected vegetation ranges from algae, bryophyte, pteridophyte, gymnosperm and angiosperm. Some are hardwood trees, some are medicinal plants while some are xerophytic plants.

10/10 in terms of maintenance and layouts.

This place is covered with lush greenery and the pond gives an immense soothing view. The whole environment is really very peaceful. It's a treat for nature lovers and photographers too. Though there is a minor entry fee and also fee for taking cameras. But with such peaceful environment, you won't regret your visit.

This territory is entirely concealed with lots of plants as it is a botanical garden. It covers a palm terrace, Rose lawn, landscape view, cactus, butterfly yard, children's park, hibiscus lawn etc. You can drive with 4 wheels and they charge a parking fee and entry fee. You can get a large space for picnic spots inside the botanical gardens. Therapeutic plants are there as well.
