Ancient Ashoka Pillar:-- Near 2250 years old Ashoka Pillar on the banks of Budhi Gandak! This Ashoka pillar is located in Lauria Nandangarh (Pa • Champaran, Bihar). This pillar is 32 feet high, on which east facing lion is also built, on it 6 inscriptions in Brahmi script are engraved by Emperor Ashoka, in which there are instructions related to Dhamma and public welfare!! The polish of this ancient column is as attractive as it is today! Siddharth also left for Vaishali-Rajgir from this route. Ashoka had built a beautiful pillar in his memory, around it there are 15-20 stupas and many ancient mounds! This place might have belonged to the Moris of Piplivan! The huge stupa of Nandangarh is located 2 km away from it. The journey continues!......

Feel so good being there, seeing our one of the most historical place. Feel equally bad seeing that the government didn't take much care of it... Gates was open, no guards was there and goats were roaming around the places like it's there playground... Feel really bad that we are not preserving well our history

The place is named after Ashoka pillar (laur). It is made of sandstone and is about 10 m high....needs better maintenance and the writing should be translated and put up as a notice board by ASI. Made some time in 241 BC. Is on ancient Road to Nepal.

Ashoka pillars, the one at Lauriya-Nandangarh is highly polished in the characteristic Mauryan style. The capital of this pillar comprises a single seated lion, whose rump and hind legs protrude beyond the abacus that consists of a row of geese flying clockwise. This abacus is placed atop an inverted bell-shaped lotus with fluted petals, and is fixed to the pillar by metal dowel rods. The pillar is inscribed with the first six of Ashoka’s Major Pillar Edicts, written in Ashokan Prakrit using the Brahmi script.

Ancient pillar established by King Ashoka the great. On the piller there are many things written in different languages, that is almost impossible to read for a common man. Good place to visit at weekends. The temple near this is quite beautiful.
