Queen Vasta built this temple in memory of her husband king harsh gupta.
The location is mentioned in the memoirs of the Chinese traveler Xuanzang as a location of monasteries and temples. It was visited in 1872 by Alexander Cunningham, a colonial British India official. His report on a Laxman (Lakshmana) temple at Sirpur brought it to international attention.

good :- it makes indians proud such a great piece of art from our ancestors. it is hard to imagine to build such a beautiful structure in 6th century proper fencing has been done to protect this original place. no ticket for visit drinking water is available

bad:- we didn't found guards or other staff for security. no person available to explain the history no proper sanitation. this place is only good for history lovers.

Only lakshman temple, a famous tourist location situated near capital city Raipur, there are all together 7 to 8 spots including river side and temples of 500 years old. Must carry your own conveyance and food articles. Water and snacks are freely available.

This place has ancient temples, stupas, and Jain temples. A confluence of three religions. The archeological sites are soul- stirring.
There's a state department of tourism office at the starting point of the township. A very helpful, friendly and positive person is on duty there. He'll not only guide you, give you a map to all the sites, but also arrange for a guide at a minimal cost.
Do book your lunch at the state tourism restaurant next door, as you'll need it if you want to see all the best sites there. Time will fly.
A must visit place. Proud of our rich traditions and heritage.

We drove from Raipur with family. Kids loved the place. The route also goes through barnawapara forest which was really nice. Drive was smooth. Kids were excited to see monkeys throughout the journey. It is good half day trip. Remember to pack your own food as there is no hegenic places to eat :). It will be crowded in the month of Saavan. There is also acceas to mahanadi River which is shallow near the banks. We enjoyed overall
