A very beautiful place especially for the peoples who love nature and want to see historical structures. Rani Durgawati made this fort to watch her enemies from the top of the hills and you can see all the area of jabalpur from here. The ancient touch of the fort, well and horse stable is really good. You have to go upstairs and it is near about 15 minutes walk.

Nice historical place, great sunset 🌇 views, great ambient.
Madan Mahal fort was constructed in 11th century under the rule of 37th Gond ruler Madan Singh. Although Madan Mahal fort is named as fort but basically it was a military post which was used as watch tower and military barrack. Main fort was in plains called Garha fort. It was the Garha fort where Kings and royal family members use to stay. During of Madan Mahal fort visit, we can see the structure having rooms, stables, secret passages, ancient scripts, corridors etc.

FORT BUILT ON A ROCK TO KEEP VIGIL ON INTRUDERS: POORLY MAINTAINED
Close to the Balancing Rock of Jabalpur is the famous fort of Rani Durgavati. We visited the fort post our visit to the Balancing Rock.
Also known as the Madan Mahal Fort, due to the area where it is located, it is atop a hill and accessed by a long flight of steps. It is a small fort built by the Rajgond rulers of Jabalpur, and seems to only be a manned post built to keep vigil on invaders.
The fort dates back to the 11th century. Though not exactly an architectural marvel, the little fort has an aura around it. Small but compact and fully equipped for martial encounters the fort has remnants of stables, a small reservoir and other rooms.
Much needs to be done for the maintenance of the Fort, though there were plenty of material lying around indicating that the Archaeological Survey of India is interested in it to an extent.
The fort provides for superb views of the city of Jabalpur and one can access the top of the fort via a flight of stairs carved into the rock.
A MUST SEE.

Call it Rani Durgawati Fort or Madan Mahal...but do not miss visiting the place. Yes, it takes a bit of effort to reach there but the effort is worth it. As you climb the stairs you'll come across a Shiva temple amongst the rocks. The most striking feature of the fort is the dexterous utilization of natural rocks as a scaffolding. The fort seemed to be more like a military station during old times. Doesn't look like anyone of royal lineage would have been staying here.
There's no entry fee to the fort. Please carry water bottles before you begin to climb the 100-odd stairs to the fort. And...at the end of your visit please do indulge in a spicy plate of maggi and fresh lemon soda from the shacks at the entry gate of the hill !!
The Balancing Rocks Park is also nearby. Please don't miss this spot. It's awestriking how the boulders are aligned one atop another..and that no earthquake is strong enough to shake them to fall!!

Also knows as Madan Mahal Fort. Amazing city view from the top of the fort. I'm sure that once every citizen must have come here at least.

The fort dates back to 11th century AD. The Rajgond rulers reigned over Jabalpur, Mandla and surrounding regions. Madan Mahal is one such fort built by them.

There're many myths floating about the fort of the Gonds. It is said to harbor gold bricks and Gond treasures hidden somewhere in it in accessible underground folds.
A tunnel covering a long distance is said to be located somewhere around the precinct, a possible escape route and transportation artery of the Gonds.

Place is historical monuments but it is not well maintained. As well as there is no guide or any displayboard/book for information about the fort history. Our monuments should be preserved.

This fort has approximately 200 or more steep steps. Elderly people may face problem in climbing so many stairs. As per information received from care taker and guard this fort was used as a watch tower. There is no entry ticket. This fort is located close to balancing rocks and mount litera zee school. The campus of this fort has many temple's and mosque. Entire city view is visible from the top of this fort. This place has an adequate parking. The distance from main road is approximately 600 metres. The fort is made up of rocks. except the watch tower rest all the structure is deformed. This location is good for photography. Make sure you carry your water bottles with you. Is open from sunrise to sunset. Also known as Madan Mahal or Madan fort.

Marvel of our rich cultural heritage. The view is breath taking, you see have a panaromic view of the entire Jabalpur city; As a fort is meant to be guarding from all sides. The big boulders aka Jabal takes it truest destiny here.
Sadly very understated, and in need of a good narrative to make the visit a memorable one.
The area us under world heritage, now with all encroachments being pulled down, hopefully in a year or so it will be even more tourist friendly and scenic.
