The campus of this institute is really beautiful and very well maintained though im not a student here whenever I visit this place , it gives a calm feeling seeing all the greenery around and birds chirping . Besides being a An engineering institute the best part is that this is open to the public ,you can go for walks and bicycle rides! The institute has a pool which one can join for a minimal fee. It is a part of the allen forest!

HARCOURT BUTLER TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY is a government technical university located at KANPUR, UTTAR PRADESH in INDIA. The HBTU was named after SIR SPENCER HARCOURT BUTLER, governor of the United Provinces in British India. All Its programs have been conferred in autonomous status under the university. It is one of the oldest engineering institutes in the country and holds the ISO 9000:2001certification. It offers Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral programs in engineering, as well as Masters program in Computer Applications.

Big old college with lots of space, famous for course offerings, big alumni group, good for learning technical courses.

It is best institute for btech ,mtech and mba also.. it is one the best institute of UP in state government college. Entrace exam conduct every year for diploma holder for direct admission in second year .. wonder ful environment. I really love it ... Centenary pillar is situated there on the centeanary year.

Best engineering institute in Kanpur after IIT . Also, one of the top govt. Engineering colleges of UP. It provides BTech,Mtech,Msc,Mba courses in 13 engineering branches. This college has some exceptionally good branches as compared to topmost institutes of India.
Earlier it was college,but in 2016 it has became university .
You can get admission through JEE MAINS,GATE,NIMCET etc. It has also best alumni network across the globe.

on an absolute scale it offers a good campus , well established faculty , labs and decent campus selections.

its not an IIT but pretty close to an NIT standard. I hope it has and is improving now that is deemed university .

I was studied here. It was an autonomous but now it becomes an University. I feel proud as a student. Faculty were very good and they are. Library is also very good. There is very good environment for the studieng.

Nice college that had their own past history which was built in British period (1921) by harcourt butler . there have good placement, alumni connectivity and have space for sports.l feel to proud to be HBTUian.

The Council of Student's Activities is responsible for organising extra- and co-curricular activities in the institute. It is headed by a chairman and has a secretaryand assistant secretary, all of whom are faculty members. It has several sub-councils and clubs, each presided over by convener, also from the faculty members. They have a student secretary, elected by the students through direct voting (secret ballot), done on non-party lines. Elections are held in starting of each odd semester for the academic year

Consequently, the Indian Industrial Commission, 1916-18, at its Nainital meeting proposed two institutions for engineering — one at Roorkee and the other at Kanpur. To boost entrepreneurship, accelerate industrial development, create a sound environment for contemporary applied research, and inculcate scientific temper, an institute called Government Research Institute, Cawnpore was started in 1920. It was housed in the two rooms of what was called Bhoot Wali Kothi. The old majestic building is still intact at the northwest corner of the Company Bagh crossing, near Nawabganj. Dr. H. E. Annett, who was then the Principal of the Opium Research Laboratory, Cawnpore, of which the new institute was an adjunct, was appointed as the head.

On 25 November 1921, the then governor of the United Provinces, Sir Spencer Harcourt Butler (1869-1938), K.C.S.I., C.I.E., formally laid the foundation of the present main (administration) building. It was rechristened Government Technological Institute in 1921. In 1928, it got the name Harcourt Butler Technological Institute.Its first principal of Indian nationality was Shri Dattatreya Yashwant Athawale. As of 1 September 2016, it was granted a university status and renamed Harcourt Butler Technical University under the HBTU Act, 2016 passed by the Government of Uttar Pradesh.
