One of the biggest and best fort in Kerala, which is a must visit for anyone interested in history and archaeology.
Fort is very huge vast and beautiful. The whole circuit around the fort would take around 1 and half hours. So plan your trip accordingly.

P.S: Do carry water with you before entering the fort.

Beautiful place, worth visiting. It opens at 8, yet its very hot in the day time to walk over and enjoy. Please carry an umbrella without fail and stay hydrated. I would suggest visiting the place after 4:30pm.

Bekal Fort: A Journey Through Time

Bekal Fort, also known as Bekal Fort, is a 17th-century fort situated in Bekal, Kasaragod district, in the Indian state of Kerala. It is the largest fort in Kerala, and is one of the most well-preserved forts in India. The fort stands on a promontory overlooking the Arabian Sea, and is surrounded by a moat.

**Historical Significance**

The fort was built by Shivappa Nayaka of the Keladi Nayaka dynasty in 1640 AD. The Nayakas were a powerful dynasty that ruled over Karnataka from the 15th to the 18th centuries. The fort was originally built to protect the Nayakas' trade interests in the region. It was also used as a base for their military campaigns.

**Decline and Restoration**

In the 18th century, the Keladi Nayaka dynasty declined, and the fort fell into disrepair. It was captured by the British in 1792, and remained under British control until India's independence in 1947. After independence, the fort was declared a monument of national importance, and began to be restored.

**Present Day**

Today, Bekal Fort is a popular tourist destination. It is open to the public, and visitors can explore the fort's many chambers, courtyards, and bastions. The fort also offers stunning views of the Arabian Sea.

**Changes Over Time**

The fort has undergone significant changes over the years. The original fort was made of mud and wood, but it was later rebuilt in stone. The fort has also been expanded and strengthened over time.

Despite the changes that have been made, the fort has retained its original charm and character. It is a reminder of the power and influence of the Keladi Nayaka dynasty, and is a testament to the skill of the fort's builders.

Overall, Bekal Fort is a fascinating historical site that is well worth visiting. It is a reminder of the rich history and culture of Kerala.

Have to visit this Fort. Actually all tourist spots, in Kerala, are so well maintained and clean.
Bekal Fort is a medieval fort built by Shivappa Nayaka of Keladi in 1650 AD, at Bekal. It is the largest fort in Kerala, spreading over 40 acres.
The view point , jutting into the sea is just ethereal.
We are on a drive from Bangalore to Kannur to Murudeshwar, so stopped for a visit. You will really enjoy your experience.

Very long Beach. Very crowded. Mostly families. Can't go inside water. Play with waves and can play on sand. Floating bridge is also there on the beach. Few good shops are there on beach. Sunset view is awesome on the beach. Very relaxing place. Zip line is also available as adventure sports. Sometimes exhibition etc will be there on the beach. Some entry fee is also charged at the time of parking the vehicle. From parking just 100mts is beach. Safe place. Children can play nicely as small park type space is there. Bekal fort is visible from the beach. Bekal fort is just 10 minutes drive from the beach. Waves will be striking with the fort walls. It gives nice view. Must visit place.

The beach was a tranquil paradise that provided the ultimate escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The soft, golden sand welcomed barefoot walks along the water's edge, while the rhythmic sound of waves created a soothing ambiance. The vast expanse of the sea stretching out before me was a breathtaking sight, evoking a sense of awe and wonder. The refreshing sea breeze swept away all worries, leaving me feeling rejuvenated and at peace. Whether basking in the warm sunlight or witnessing a glorious sunset, the beach offered a perfect setting for relaxation and reflection. It's a place that I'd gladly return to for moments of pure bliss.

It was one of the most mesmerising fort of southern India, located in Kerela nearing to Karnataka border. The view of Arabian Sea kissing the fort from three sides is something which is rare and the architecture of the entire fort will force you to surrender before the architects of the fort.
We went in the evening and the sunset view cannot be explained in words. You will really think how the guards used to guard the most vulnerable southwestern border of India hats off to the king who chose this strategic location. Please visit the fort during winters as the humid climate of Kerela will exhaust you during the winters.
