Shree Maa Kankaleshwari Temple

In 1913 AD (1320 Bengali calendar), during the flood of the Damodar River, this Kali sculpture was discovered in the western part of Bardhaman city. The age of the sculpture has not been determined yet. The sculpture is actually an intact stone idol, three feet wide and five feet tall. It has eight arms on both sides, totaling sixteen hands. The sculpture appears to be carved from stone and resembles a human skeleton. The idol has eight arms with various attributes like a lotus, conch, discus, bow, sword, and noose. There are soft garlands around the neck, and at the base, there are statues of Shiva and two attendants on either side. The deity's body has intricate carving, and the head is adorned with a finely crafted crown.

This is a really famous place among the local people. There is a story behind Maa Kankaleswari.
After receiving a dream, the king of then Barddhaman Udaychand recovered a stone used for spinning clothes by the washermen on the banks of the Damodar. The idol was carved in that stone. This stone deity was later installed in the temple. This temple is more than two thousand years old!

Excellent place to visit and have darshan of Maa Kali. A very rare idol of Godess. Very nicely maintained temple premises and surroundings. The History as per the purohit goes like this, the idol was found in Damodar river and people brought the idol in the present location which was build into a temple by Burdwan king.

The temple is located in Kanchannagar, Bardhaman. It is dedicated to Maa Kankaleswari. There is a very big ground infront of the temple where mela is organised. There is a oldage home nearby. Daily prasad is available for just Rs 10. It is among the one of the holy places of Bardhaman. The place is very serene and beautiful. Many People used to do votive offerings here.

One of the important Kali Temples of Bardhamaan. Very calm and soothing place. Best time to visit is during evening especially in a summer evening. It is a 20-25 min route in e rickshaw from Bardhaman Railway station. There is a large field infront of the temple premises where large people gather, fairs are held and meetings are also held which have been attended by Important personalities. There is also an Old Age home just beside the temple. Overall a very good place to visit.

Nice place to visit. This temple is situated at Kanchannagar, Burdwan. It has old age home where aged people can stay at free. Also here has 2 big marriage halls and a floor for guest house.

Kankaleshwari is a famous and ancient Kali temple located in Kanchannagar, in Bardhaman city of Kali Mandir. This Kanchannagar famous for the knife-mantle. According to historians, the ancient city of Gaur, Kanchan town was the headquarters of Shashanka head of Gaur.

It can be said that, in 1913 or 1923 (the difference of opinion) the floods of Damodar river flooded the region in Burdwan city. The statue of Kathpathar was rescued from Damodar's womb after flood flooding. Found in this temple of Kanchannagar, it is known that Kamalananda got the divine image of a devotee named Prajrajajak.

Another incident is also mentioned in the context of the advent of Goddess Kankaleshwari Kali. The incident occurred in the year 1916, on the left bank of the Damodar river, in the year 1916, a goddess statue appeared in the village of Barudawari of Khargeshwara mausoleum. A piece of stone has emerged from the ground. On one back, local businda and rajak families work as cloths. On the other hand, they noticed the carvings of the goddess Vignan with the backs. Later, the villagers of Bardhaman's king Vijay Chand heard the issue. For the temple premises, he donated a hundred fifty-acre land. Kankaleshwari Kali Temple was built.

It is further heard that Govinda Das, who was born in Sri Kanchanagare on the birth of Sri Chaitanya, was the companion of Visakhapatnam. Kankaleshwari Kali Mandir is situated just a few miles away. Kankaleshwari Kali has been situated at Panchatna Vishnamandir situated here.

From this information, it is known from this temple that with a calm and pleasant environment and a few steps away from the trees, there was an ancient Vishnu temple beside a playground. In such an environment, in 1900, the people of Sadanmarg gave the ashram Kali Chaitanya Bharti. This monastery was established in the premises of a nabaratna temple (construction period 1486-1533). Kankaleshwari Kali was established in this Nawabant temple.

It is astonishing that the age of Kankaleshvari statue could not be ascertained till date. The statue is three feet wide and five feet tall. The statue is engraved on a large black colored basalt stone. According to historians, such a statue, Aryan, was built in the Eastern era. The person's skeleton, nervous system, etc. are clearly engraved in the statue. According to archaeologists, these statues are Buddhist or Pala era. More than two thousand years old In every goddess of human body, the veins are engraved in goddess.

Kankaleswari Kali is one of the tourist spot of Bardhaman and the idol of Goddess Kali is engraved in stone. This temple is devoted to Goddess Kali which is the main attraction of this temple and the idol placed inside the temple has eight hands. It is ornamented with terracotta panels.

Wonderful experience..calm ambience..beautiful surrounding for meditation.. divine mother is Ma Chamunda here,which is very rare.The idol is said to be of pre-aryan age.As the name suggests 'ved-garbha', I think Mahasaraswati aspect of adi-shakti is also related to the idol of Ma Chamunda here. Another mystery is, she's put her own left hand finger , in her own mouth. I don't know what does she revealing through this !! Must visit ..

Very authentic n mythological Goddess Kali Idol in the form of Skeleton. She's in a very naughty mood as depicted in mythology. A rare pose . All must visit to see her in a pretty different pose.
