Sat Deul or Sat Deule is a 1000 year old Jain temple. One of the oldest temples in West Bengal and is made of burnt bricks.
One can get there from Memari or Masagram stations.
We walked 4 km from Masagram.
The architecture, being pre Islamic, uses the Nagar style without arches. Instead the gate is made by Corbelling, setting-in bricks to reach a triangular shape.
It has motifs curved out of bricks.

Maintained by ASI,
Timing: Sunrise to sunset.
No entry fee.
Camera allowed.

Located on the right side of the Durgapur Expressway nearly 5 kms. to Palsit Toll Plaza (from Kolkata to Burdwan). As construction of the Expressway is underway we have to do some off-roading and have to drive around 1 km in the opposite lane (with much fear on an Expressway). One have to go around narrow village road (metalled) for nearly 2 kms to reach the spot. No signage is present anywhere. Locals are very helpful to find the place. The Deul is well preserved with a beautiful garden, all done by ASI. The Jain Deul was built around 10 th century A.D. If you have some interest about our past then you may pay a visit to this otherwise not so famous place. It may cost you 30 minutes.

One of the earliest brick built temple architecture of Bengal, standing tall since the last 1000 years. This unique architecture is a clasical example of Bengal Rekha Deul which took inspiration from Orissan Deul but later developed as a unique typology due to its distinct features. Definitely worth a visit for all those who has particularly interest in history & heritage of Bengal.

First of all, it is a must visit architectural site. The place does not have any ticketing system. It is much older than it looks. The structure is daunting as well as sophisticated. However, ASI needs to take better care of the lawn and the garden. One can spend maximum of 30 minutes here. Other than the architecture there is nothing else to see.

Wonderful place for one day tour. This monument has been declared to be of National Importance under the Ancient Monuments and Archeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958. The Sat Deul was built in bricks in the style of Orissan Rekha- Deul. The temple is 'Pancharatha' on plan and remarkable for fine corbelled- arch at the Entrance. Equally interesting is the motif of interlacing chaitya windows on the exterior walls. Stylistically, the temple may be dated to circa 10th Century CE. The monument is maintained by the Archeological Survey of India. The garden placed before the monument is maintained by the Horticulture Division of Archeological Survey of India.
It is one of the best place for one day tour, pre- wedding shoot and outside picnic spot.

Visited with Team Bengal Local. This is a heritage place – basically a Jain temple. Nice architecture – A rekh Deul type monument situated between a green garden. The ambiance is very serene. You can spend couple of hours here. Nearest railhead is Memari. Very near to highway.

Mosagram is an important station in the Burdwan-Howrah cordline. Azhapura very close to the station of Mossagram, an ancient rich village of Jamalpur thana of Eastern Burdwan district. In the book 'History of Bengalis' by Niharranjan Roy, this village is named as 'seven bankrupt Ajapura'. In this region there is one of the oldest monuments in the Rekha deul. These seven Deols of Jain temple more than a thousand years old. This seven deul is made by the architectural style brick built in Orissa's Rek Deul. The use of rising arches at the entrance of the deull is wonderful and exquisitely beautiful and beautifully arranged in the Chaiti-window. It is estimated that the time of its construction from the structure structure of the temple dates back to the tenth century AD. This ancient deity is acquired and preserved by the Archaeological Survey of India.

Deul is a temple architecture in the region of Bengal. Among the most ancient temples of Bengal, Deul is one of the oldest temples. Deul's artwork developed at some time between the 6th to the 10th century AD. After the Muslim rule, there was a Renaissance in the Deol industry in Bengal in the intermediate era. This style of the temple was built until the 16th-nineteenth century.

Just visited the place. The tenth century architecture is good and well maintained by ASI. But it was hectic to reach there. If you avail train, reach Chanchai or Masagram first (Acc to locals Chanchai would be the better choice). But in both ways, there are very few vehicle options. Totos don't want to go and one tracker comes in 1 hr. I took a toto after walking through field roads for 15 mins and it cost me 200rs. You can also reserve car at Memari to directly reach there, but won't be that much worth it.

"Sat Deul"

This brick-Temple shows the features of the Nagara style. The ground plan is pancha-ratha, surmounted by a curvilinear tower. The temple has stucco works over carved bricks. Jaina sculptures found at the place may indicate that it belonged to the Jaina faith and the temple is datable to c. 10th-11th century AD.
