It's a really really really good place ! You must visit this place, this place has many animals and you will never get bored. Animals like tigers, bears and panthers are a bit rare, but still you will get to see animals like monkeys, peacocks, deer, and nilgays . Taking their vehicles is recommended if you don't want to damage your vehicle. There are trees of many types too, there is a castle called George Palace inside the forest. A place worth visiting 5 star ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐.

The Madhav National Park is situated on the northern fringe of the Central Highlands of India forming a
part of the Upper Vindhyan Hills intermixed with plateaus, and valley sectiions. The slopes are generally
gentle and rarely steep. Spreading over an area of almost 355 Sq kms, Madhav National Park is a
fascinating mix of natural splendours of history and architectural wonders. Madhav National Park is
situated in the northern part of Madhya Pradesh in Shivpuri District, very close to the Shivpuri township
This was notified as a National Park in the year 1958.
The Park is unique in having both lake, meadow and forest ecosystems. Sakhya Sagar and Madhav Sagar
are the two lakes in the southern part of the park, providing the aquatic biodiversity and lifeline for the
terrestrial species. These lakes not only add to the natural beauty of the area, but also provide a permanent source of water to the wildlife, and a fine wetland habitat to the aquatic fauna including
thousands of migratory waterfowls. Marsh Crocodiles are in abundance in Sakhya Sagar lake. Due to
this, the lake looks like a "Crocodile Safari" and attracts special attention of tourists. Madikhera dam is
situated in the North Western part of the Park.

A quaint forest in Central India.. steeped in medieval and colonial history. You can take your own vehicle or one is provided. Both are moderately priced. Our guide Mr. Baig is full of anecdotes..made our trip interesting.

Do drop by to see Cheetal, Sambhar, Neelgai, Deer, Crocodiles and if you're lucky, a leopard might be lurking in the bushes.

Do check the park timings they're different in winters and summers.

Nice park made by Madhav Rao Scindia.
The park is named Madhav National Park due to its establishment by Madhav Rao Scindia. The natural beauty of the park is simply enticing and creates mystery all around. The forested mountains also shelters large number of wild animals.Their boundaries are well marked and circumscribed.

History Edit

Shivpuri town in the state of Madhya Pradesh was once the summer capital and the former hunting preserve of the 'Scindias', the Maratha Maharajas of Gwalior. Even before this, during the reign of the Mughals, its dense forests were the hunting grounds of the Mughal emperors. Large herds of elephants were captured here by Emperor Akbar. Since the area was a royal shooting reserve, it was well protected, and abounded with wild life and was famous for its tigers. Bengal tigers and other animals were known to wander in great numbers in the area. It is reported that in 1916, Lord Hardinge shot eight tigers in one day at Shivpuri. Lord Minto supposed to have shot 19 tigers during his trip to Gwalior State. The last of the resident wild tigers were seen in Madhav National Park around late 1970. Owing to dedicated efforts the habitat has become secure and improved now that the transient tigers are tempted to become resident. One male and one female tiger have once again made Madhav their home since October 2007.

On the shores of Sakhya Sagar lake which edges the forests, is a boat club, from where the park visitors can see a number of migratory birds especially in winter, when a large number of migratory waterfowls visit the area. A viewing lodge constructed by the Maharaja called the Shooting Box, is situated above the Sakhya Sagar lake. In the older days one could shoot wildlife, both with a gun and camera from here. Visitors could sit under cover and watch a tiger at a kill. All around the lake (at suitable points), the Maharaja constructed boat landing areas, picnic shelters, watch towers, hides etc. and a network of well laid out metalled roads.

A small but wonderful national park. People interested in cats only, need not visit.
So far as birding is concerned, this is one of the best national parks I have seen. And, believe me, I have seen quite a lot of them. Here, the department has failed to market the park well and properly.
Crocs are aplenty. So are wild boar and variety of deers.
They say that there are leopards and sloth bears too in the park. We did not see any. They are, as it is, hard to spot.
Would the department mind putting up proper roadside banners/indicators to guide the visitors properly?

Mystery and beautiful scenery are the two things that come to mind when someone says the word, castle, and these two are the things that define the George Castle. Constructed in 1911, the castle has several turrets.

The best time to visit the castle is at dusk. The view of the Sakhya Sagar Lake from these turrets is just mesmerizing as the color of the water keeps changing till sunset. The forest seems to be at a standstill as if the animals also rest and enjoy the sun setting down.

Located 2.7 km from the main entrance of the Madhav National Park, Shivpuri, can be visited from 8 AM- 6 PM any day of the year.

Deers and lots of peacocks can be spotted here. Hard to find other wild animals but it has a nice old palace kind of building from where you can have a really great view.
