Too much crowd, queues too long that you'll pass out waiting. Although the products are good and cheap and there's always a sale there, I never manage to buy anything solely because I'm too tired to wait in long queues. I prefer online shopping.

This is a good shopping mall, most of the items are available here. Jeans, sweatshirt, t-shirs, shoes, shocks, haft-pants, inner shirt and pants, books, cookies, household furniture, utensils, bathrooms items, cooking items, bags, trolleys, etc with low rate and many many offer big or small. To have such mall near our locality we feel proud to other people. It have good architect. Many local people also have chance to open different shops like hotel near it and gain many profits in different ways.

Drawback is the the lifts aren't functional so it's difficult to bring stuff from the top floor to the 1st one for billing.

Only sub standard items sold for BPL masses except detergents/shops/shampoos/other items of same kind. But it's very very good that such a retail chain can provides the same stuffs (not quality) to the Indian poor masses.

Vishal Mega Mart says it’s India’s largest fashion-led hypermarket chain with 204 stores occupying 3 million square feet in 110 locations across India. It posted sales of Rs 3,000 crore in FY16. The sellers expect a valuation of about Rs 5,000 crore, valuing India’s sixthlargest wholesale and value retailer at 20-25 times FY19 (EBITDA), said the people cited above.

Carlyle and TPG declined to comment. Kedaara, Partners and Flipkart did not respond to queries. “Vishal Retail is a classic turnaround case where the investors are looking at cashing in on the company after it successfully waded through choppy times,” said one of the investors looking at the company.
As Indian laws don’t allow foreign entities to enter into multi-brand retail, the company was split into two.

TPG Wholesale Pvt was the wholesale and franchise arm that also oversaw backend sourcing, franchises, merchandising and logistics. Airplaza Retail was the frontend retail arm. TPG Wholesale, later renamed Vishal Mega Mart Pvt Ltd, was owned by the private equity investor while Airplaza was owned by Shriram Distribution Services Pvt Ltd. The former acts as a franchiser to Airplaza and other independent franchisees who run Vishal Mega Mart stores.

The FDI (foreign direct investment) rules remain the biggest stumbling block even now. The foreign funds will have to look for a local partner or a fund like Kedaara, which is registered as an Alternative Investment Fund (AIF). Ideally this should have been picked up by a local strategic investor but the valuation ask is very high,” said an executive directly involved in discussions.

The value retail segment saw the successful listing of Avenue Supermarkets, which runs DMart, last year. At a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 17% between 2012 and 2017, Airplaza lags behind bigger rivals such as Reliance Retail or Aditya Birla but the bigger wholesale arm has done better than direct competitors like Metro Cash and Carry or Walmart.

Vishal Mega Mart is “positioned uniquely in the retail segment driven by its favourable product mix and target segment,” according to a Crisil report on the company. “High proportion of apparel and general merchandise provides healthy profitability, while the food and grocery segment attracts footfalls, thereby ensuring that the company’s exposure to competitive intensity is relatively lower as compared to other players in the retail segment.”

Retailers that have survived and thrived will draw investor interest. “For long PE investors have stayed away from multi-brand brick-andmortar businesses,” said Sanjeev Krishan, executive director and head of private equity advisory services at PwC India. “Most of these have gone through operating upheavals and only a few have survived the e-onslaught. The ones which have managed to scale are likely to see investor attention.”
