A famous temple of Devi Mata in Chitkul. Thid Temple of Chhitkul is famous for its unique wooden architecture. The main deity is Devi Mata. The place is quiet . The view of entire Temple premises with the background of surrounding Himalayas will definitely calm your mind.

A little walk about 150 meters from the parking. Only to pray from outside. But, when I visited the temple was closed, the local villagers told me that the temple will open in the evening after 3:30 pm.

Temple built with tradational kainnauri style. Here you will got serene and peace. I'm so lukcy to see the Durga maa.The Mathi Temple is devoted to goddess Shri Mathi, who is the nearby goddess of the general population of Chitkul. The delightful sanctuary comprises of the goddess made up of walnut wood and secured with garments and embellished by a tuft of the tail of yak. The sanctuary is said to be in regards to 500 years of age. This temple has three shrines, the fundamental one said to have been worked by an occupant of Garhwal.

By the time I visited the place, the temple was closed as it opens occasionally. However the ambience was soothing and the wooden handcrafted skill was portrayed beautifully.

A beautiful, well-kept temple, built in traditional Himachali style with wood and stone for walls and slate tiles on the roof. The stone courtyard around the temple functions like the village commons and is a great place to sit and reflect or observe the slow pace of village life.

According to local story, Mathi Devi undertook a long and arduous journey before settling in this village travelling from Vrindavan to Tibet and beyond. She visited several villages presided over by members of her family.

Bhagavan Badrinarain of Kamru is her husband and he also has a shrine in Batseri Village. Nag of Sangla and Shamshares of Rakhcham are her nephews.

When Goddess Mathi Devi finally settled in Chitkul, the village found a great prosperity and she continues to be worshipped with great fanfare.

Palanquin of Mathi Devi is made of walnut wood and decorated with tuft of the tail of Yak. Every morning, she is ritually bathed by priests, who light incense in her honor while temple musicians sing songs in her praise.

Quiet an old temple in Chhitkul. The deities are revered by the locals. The temple is built in traditional himachali especially Kinnauri style. The temple has a big courtyard for community celebration an dance. Some of the idols and sculptures around the temple seemed antique which sheds light on the antiquity of the temple. The people of this village are very warm and welcoming.

The Mathi Devi temple is an architectural gem. Mathi is the Goddess of local people of Kinnaur. There are three temples in the same complex among which the oldest one is believed to be constructed by a resident of Garhwal around 500 years ago. Combination of wood and stone, it is a perfect example of the unique Kinnauri /pahadi style of architecture. Set in the middle of the village, the temple has intricate wooden carvings and a distinctive roof profile. The temple houses an ark which is made of walnut wood and is covered with clothes and a tuft of yak tail. Two poles are inserted into this ark to carry it with.
Must visit place.
