The erstwhile residence of the French governor Joseph François Dupleix is now the Indo French Cultural Centre, housing a French language study Centre (Institut de Chandernagor), a Museum and a library.
The museum was established in 1956. In my opinion, the most interesting exhibits in the museum are in the gallery of French East India Company and European settlement in Bengal. Here within the space of a few miles of the banks of Hooghly, Portuguese, English, Dutch, French, and Danes struggled with each other for power and formed trade settlements. The Portuguese at Bandel, the Dutch at Chinsurah, the French at Chandannagar, the Danes at Serampore and the English at Calcutta left their physical mark in these settlements. Ultimately most of them were overpowered by The British who were successful in colonizing India. The interesting history of European settlements is depicted through maps and models. You can also see the French period gallery with 19th century furniture and crockery, canons used in Anglo French war,a dimly lit room with a high four poster which is supposedly Dupleix’s bed, galleries depicting the history of Cha

It was the only official building of French acquired Chandannagar from where French rulers of Bengal provide their service and served to people in pre-freedom era of Bengal. Now it is converted into a beautiful museum and marinated by Archeological Survey of India. Here you can found the total french revolution of Bengal and their lives. If you want to know Bengal as well as Chandannagar you've to visit this place once. A beautiful place for you and your family for a lovely historical trip.

The Dupleix Palace is a historical landmark and architectural marvel that was built in the 1740s as the residential palace of Joseph Francois Dupleix, the former governor of Chandannagar or Chandernagore as it was then known. It is an imposing landmark, with a stunning collection of Anglo-French wartime cannons, antiques from France, 18th century wooden furniture and other priceless objects. Under the governorship of General Joseph Francois Dupleix (1697-1763), the Chandernagore city even surpassed Calcutta, in terms of overall influence, position and wealth. However, in the battle for supremacy between the French and the British, the former lost their standing in India and Chandannagar faded into a pale shadow of its glorious past as a rich and prosperous French colony. The delightful mansions and other architectural delights in Chandernagore hark back to its lovely past and a period of Indian history when the entire stretch along the river Hooghly, right from Chinsurah to Bandel and Chandannagar to Calcutta, became a sort of mini-Europe in the country itself.

Previously known as Lord Dupleix Palace, it is now a museum. You will learn about Chandannagar's past (how the French protected their colony from the British empire ). Additionally, numerous wars are portrayed by tiny dolls. Many antique personal belongings of numerous renowned people as well as some relics from other locations are housed inside the museum. It is highly advised to visit the Lord Dupleix bedroom; I found it to be enchanting. Rs. 5 for each person as entry fees (for Indian citizens). You will be given a locker at the moment of entry, which you can lock and use to store your bags, mobile device, and camera.

The Dupleix Palace - Chandan Nagar is one of the oldest and finest museums of the entire region. It boasts a beautiful collection of French items (e.g cannons used in Anglo - French war, wooden furniture of the 18th century, etc.) which are difficult to find anywhere else in the world. The institute still teaches French through regular classes.
