If you are a mountain freak and a nature lover you must be here! The view is 10/10. You might feel a bit dizzy here so try to carry warm liquids along with you.

Heaven on the earth... But the journey is so hard and pathetic.. When you reach, you can't control your excitement but dont run ir jump here coz oxygen level is too low, too much breathing issue. We took oxygen can. Someone feeling bad in our group. But this marvelous view forgotten all the journey...

=> Gurudongmar Lake is one of the most beautiful and highest lakes not only in India but also in the world.
=> It is located in the Great Himalayas at an altitude of 17800ft in the Mangan District of Sikkim at a distance of around 190km from Gangtok and 5km from south of the Tibetan (Chinese) border. It can be reached by road from Lachen via Thangu Valley.
=> It is a sacred place for Buddhists and Sikhs.
=> The blend of the beauty of the white mountain and the blue water makes the place a Paradise.
=> It is believed that the lake was named after Guru Padmasambhava (also known as Guru Rinpoche) the founder of Tibetan Buddhism, who visited this site in the 8th century.
=> The road trip from Thangu to Gurudongmar was an awesome experience as it passed through rugged terrain with moraine and the alpine pastures covered with many rhododendron trees enhanced the scenic beauty.
= Being an Indian tourist, I was allowed to visit the lake; however, the foreigners need to get a special permit from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
=> The lake almost remains frozen in the winter from Nov to Mid May. The increasing pollution in the recent past years has muddied the water of the lake.
=> As it is situated at a high altitude, the oxygen level in the air gets lower due to which my family members started suffering with headache & breathlessness and had to run back fast.
=> Try to carry medicines, mini oxygen cylinder, camphor, dark chocolates with warm clothes and accessories.

In North Sikkim's high mountain land,
Where the sky stretches far and grand,
There lies a lake, serene and still,
Gurudongmar, a treasure to fill

Its waters mirror the heavens above,
A canvas of blue, a divine love,
The snow-capped peaks stand guard around,
As if to embrace this sacred ground

The gentle breeze whispers tales of old,
Of pilgrims who journeyed, their hearts pure and bold,
They sought the blessings of this mystic place,
And found solace in the lake's embrace

The prayer flags flutter in the wind,
Their colors bright, a message to send,
Of hope, of peace, of love, and light,
Gurudongmar Lake, a spiritual delight

Oh, how I wish to wander there,
To feel the magic of the mountain air,
To sit beside the waters still,
And let my soul be blessed at will

Gurudongmar Lake, a mystic dream,
A place of beauty, a divine scheme,
In North Sikkim's high mountain land,
A treasure to fill, a beauty so grand.

It was like a Dream come true moment for me. Here nature has its beauty. The beauty of the white mountain and Bluewater makes the place a Paradise. Salute to the Indian Armies also for their constant efforts to keep the place safe for the tourists. This place is highly recommended to visit at least once in a lifetime.

Fabulous experience of doing Parikrma of 7KM w 1 packet of gems..no water but stunning views. Must do if fit at that altitude! My cab driver thought I died as he couldn't see me for 2 hours while I was happily enjoying the walk around the lake!

Very dangerous yet amazing place to visit if you are travelling to North Sikkim. The road to the lake is very rough and takes a bit long time to get there. Well why is it dangerous? Because it is one of the most highest place you could travel in India, Almost 17500 ft. And it really becomes tough whenever you are half way there. The oxygen level becomes low, You get headaches, You feel a bit dizzy. So what can you do to overcome this? Well, Carry meds for acidity, headaches, and vomiting. Also don’t forget to carry a oxygen spray. It is highly recommended. Also you can carry some dark chocolates or popcorn to avoid other symptoms. Do carry warm clothes, glows, cap, jackets and sweaters. Overall it is an amazing place to visit.

What is this place man?
I mean it is very difficult to even describe this place, the beauty beyond the imagination.
I was fortunate even to visit this highest lake which is at a height of 18000+ feet. It is very difficult to explain the beauty of the lake in words. It was an amazing and splendid experience to see the different shades of the lake.
As it is the highest lake at a very high altitude please take all the precautionary measures along with you, and don’t try to stay here for longer durations as the oxygen level is very low here. Senior citizens with high BP and kids below five shouldn't travel here ideally. For the safer side carry the oxygen cylinder and camper.
It is that place to visit once in a lifetime.

Very beautiful lake. This is Highest lake in India, height 5425 m. Dry cold wave stunned your heart beat also feeling breathing problem lack of oxygen. Maximum water of the lake is formed in Ice. This is very silent place. You take maximum 30 minutes in this spot because after few times breathing problem started. You must carry mini oxygen cylinder and camphor. When you are going into the lake then it carry with you.

This lake at about 17000 ft above sea level, located in North Sikkim. Going down from the parking to the lake and then making your way back up can be really exhausting due to gusty wind, freezing cold and low oxygen. Carrying an oxygen cylider is recommended.

Thrilling experience. At the highest Lake of India . Some people experience difficulty in breathing because of high altitude . But the place is one of the best places that I have ever seen.

Its very beautiful. But only thing is if you are weak and oxygen is low, do not go there. The roads may be worth it but life is above all.
My experience: the roads , the journey was the most beautiful part. We also spotted mountain deers which is rare. Try to stay in car if u feel dizzy. You can't stay there after 12 as the winds are very strong. So try starting early to reach there. I couldn't stand there for 1 min too. Oxygen is too low. Best is to Carry an oxygen cylinder, keep pumping and walking so you enjoy the view and don't faint. I couldn't enjoy just because of that but you don't repeat the mistake. Alternatively keep camphor.

One of the tourist attractions of North Sikkim. The place is close to the small city of Lachen. It is around 18000 feet in height. The place is beautiful and sacred to the people of Sikkim. Air is thin so if you have any breathing issues or bp issues or senior citizens or infants please avoid this place. Place take proper precautions before going to this place. Please carry camphor inside the hankey and inhale it in short intervals. Please take a little sip of water at a small interval. Avoid spicy food. Follow driver instructions, avoid long stays at the lake. Please carry a small oxygen cane available at base army camp for Rs 800 .

A really magical place. Higher than most other lakes in India, this pristine holy lake can be called the crown jewel of Sikkim.
The road is also in good shape now. It was a bright sunny may morning but still the wind chill factor was very high. Be sure to carry enough woolens and a windproof jacket or parka as the outermost layer. Remember not to overexert here or you will feel the effects of altitude like headache and shortness of breath

This lake is situated at 18000ft and is one of highest lakes in the world!

It’s a breathtaking lake present amidst a cold dessert!

The drive to this place is scenic but also very wobbly! You will probably have a back ache by the end of this trip 😅!

At such high altitude you might face oxygen levels dropping resulting in breathing problem and headaches!

The wind speed is high making you feel very cold!
Dress and equip yourself properly so that you can enjoy this beauty!

I was fortunate to visit the place in a clear bright sunny day. It's best described as a heaven. However the place is very dry and gusty wind blows there. Be sure to take precaution, carry oxygen cylinder for it being at a very high altitude. It's bikers paradise visiting place.
