Each Satra holds its unique significance, and Samaguri Satra is renowned for its expertise in mask-making. The Satra is known for its exceptional creativity in this art form which has been skillfully passed down through generations. These masks are used in Bhaonas,(traditional dramas) where mythological stories are enacted to depict particular characters.

The Natun Chamaguri Satra is famous for traditional mask making kraft using environment friendly materials. This satra was built by Ahum king Chakradhaj Shingha in 1663 AD. The present head of the stara(stradhikar) Dr. Hem ch. Goswsmi engaged himself for developing and popularing mask making culture to the world wide in a different way. The uniqueness of the mask makes here to other places is the 'Lotokai Mukha'(one type of mask) having features of shaping fitness to the actor weared and moving different parts of the Mask accordingly actor's dialogue.

Comes to Majuli then visit this Satra, placed at Chamoguri near Rawanapar and feels proud to be a visitor of Majuli/Assam/North East India/India/ Asia/ the Earth🌏....🙌🙏🙏🙏

I visited Majuli, one of the world’s largest river islands, way back in February but somehow never wrote about it on the blog although I wrote one elsewhere. I am still toying with the idea of a bigger piece on it. But as of now, I am doing this short one on Notun Chamaguri Xatra (Satra), the center of Majuli’s mask making culture.
