Most beautiful and historical place in raichur

Not many people go here as the entrance is hard to find. Not well maintained trail. But follow the rocks and steps and you can reach on top. Good views of the lake and the city from the top. Early morning you can catch the 🌅 a small mosque in top.

Absolutely it is great structure in Raichur..but no proper steps to climb, it is slippery at some spots, don't recommend for elderly and kids, ..but view of city is literally fantastic.. district administration should take care of this historic monument and put information n history about the fort, and there is no direction hoardings for new visitors..

Good place to visit you will get a full view of raichur city and you will get very beautiful view of sunrise if you visit in morning hours there is no time limit but it's safer to visit in day light because it's a mountain area and it's a holy place also.

I just loved it.. you can get a nice view of Raichur from here.. and there is a masque over here you can visit it..no facilities like water,snacks.. so if you visit this place take some drinking water and snacks from city.

Raichur, a city situated between the Krishna and Tungabhadra rivers, is located 409 kilometres from the capital of Karnataka, Bengaluru. The city that has an attachment to history and culture that goes back to the days of Emperor Ashoka.

The name Raichur, originally Rayachooru, means a king’s place in Kannada. The word “Raya” means king whilst “oor” means place or town. There is another theory behind the name. Raichur is said to have originated from Telugu words “Rai” meaning stone and “ooro” meaning town, combined to Raichooro, a town of stones.

The Raichur region (Raichur Doab) ruled by several dynasties Kakatiya Kamma dynasty, Musunuri Kamma dynasty, Rashtrakutas, Vijayanagar Empire, Bahmanis and Nizams, the Raichur Fort is witness for these dynasties.

The fort is existing since the time of the Chalukyas of Badami and then during the rule of Chalukyas of Kalyani the fort was renovated. In 1294 AD the Kakatiyas of Warangal strengthen the fort. As per the Kakatiya inscription, Vithalanatha a commander of the army of Kakatiyas built the inner tiers of the fort.

During the rule of Vijayanagara Empire, Krishnadevaraya built the north entrance in celebration of one of his conquests.

Vijayanagara Emperor Krishnadevaraya lays siege to Raichur fort held by Bijapuri Adil Shahi kings. He defeats a massive Bijapuri army which fielded 120,000 infantry, 18.000 cavalry, 400 canons and 900 guns. This was the first major Gun Battle in the history of India

Krishna Deva Raya soundly defeats Adil Shah and captures the fort. Adil shah sends an ambassador to Krishna Raya. Krishna Raya makes him wait a month before admitting him for audience. Ambassador-"Give us back Raichur, horses, guns and elephants. We will be your friends"

Krishna Raya's army plundered Bijapuri houses for firewood. When Ismail protested, Krishna Raya said- "Sorry, I can't control these Vijayanagara soldiers" After staying in Bijapur for a month and teaching Ismail Adil shah a lesson, Krishna Deva Raya returned to Vijayanagara...
