A very beautiful and historical place. Not much information is available though of its historical importance. But the beautiful structure of the fort is awesome.
If you go in the golden hour( 2-4pm) it will be photography heaven. No tickets are needed. It is open to all.

Beautiful place and mostly unknown to many. That's why it is clean and silent. Loved every corner. Few renovations are done and it's obvious.

Sometimes, I wonder how many such places we have in Bengal that are waiting to be completely effaced! Near belda , a well-known town in west midnapur, has beautiful road connectivity, but few people know about it. Inspite of public apathy, the ruin is considerably well preserved, but the scope of improvement is still there. A protective wall / fencing is much needed. Invaluable part of the excavated ruins at its western side are being used for construction work by the village folks. Visit time 10- 4.30

It's a quaint structure, very well maintained. What is mysterious is the mystery around this place's real history. Very little is known about who built it, when and what was this structure all about. Nice place to visit of you are thrilled by historical places and structures.

KURUMBERA-FORT...
A very uncommon and very little known Historical Place, situated in a small & remote village named GANGESWAR in East-Midnapur Dist....

A fort must have some defensive features - tunnels, artillery, watch tower etc. This place has nothing like this. In stead it looks like a place for congregation / mass worship facing an alter at West....

The fort is made of red stones. The remains of old fort is now maintained and place is neat and clean enough to visit only if you are passing by.... Good for photoshoots lover, adventures journey, we can feel inner peace, good for couples nd familiar, a short trip could be done, nice place for picnics nd short trip, a good place in lovely weather, the fort was made in time of ram nd eita vanvaas, it was built in one night just before the day sita and ram visit. But the root for this place is not so comfortable 😊😊

This is a very famous place in Pashchim Medinipur, West Bengal. Gagneswar is the most accurate place where the fort is situated. The road conditions are good. Parking places are available. The interior design is good. Now this is under the Archeological Survey of India. There are no entry fees. There is a small market also. This fort is not in a good condition due to lack of care.

* Kurumbera Fort *
Kurumbera Fort is situated in Gaganeshwar, at about 43.5 km from Midnapore town, turn left towards Belda and reach a village junction called Kukai, at about 2 km from Keshiari. This is like a fort now preserved by Archeological Survey of India under the ancient monument Act. Local people have little knowledge about its history. It is known that it was built during the rule of Surja Banshi King of Odisha Gajipata Kapilendra Dev (1438-1469) probably during the regime of Aurangazeb. On the face of it, the entire monument resembles the architecture of ancient Odisha. But some men believe that it was built in ancient time, Ram, Sita visited the place during Banabas. The basic characteristics of a fort, such as a safe storage space for weapons or ammunition, a fortified main entrance, layered walls, bastions, moats, watchtowers, or secret exits. A pillared corridor and three spherical domes. The external pillars support a roof shaped like a flower. Circular pillars were used to the rear of the left-dome.The long verandah made by khilan of laterite stone is a remarkable piece of structure. However little is known about the people who built it or lived here. There is huge courtyard ringed by pillared corridor and in the middle, there are three spherical domes. There is also some kind of an altar in the middle. This is an ancient fort preserved by the Archaeological Survey of India under the Ancient Monuments Act. The main entrance leads to an open courtyard with arched corridors on all the four sides. The complex has a 15 feet high enclosure made of rough stone and lime plaster. The enclosure is about 312 feet long and 253 feet wide on the outside. The arched corridors are about 8 feet wide made of massive laterite blocks. The interior of the verandah appears to be divided into cloisters with each cloister having an arch that is approximately 10 feet high and a detailed lotus pattern on its keystone. The arches appear to be of the corbelled type indicating the inclination towards the Odia style of architecture. Historians say that there were originally 69 pillars but only 62 have survived.

Old but enchanting.
Visited Kumumbera fort quite a few months back and had a mixed feeling about it. We were coming back from our Mandarmani trip and took our time to explore the place. We even witnessed a 'Hen fight' there which itself is very rare in WB right now. This protected place got its usual fame and name after coming into ASI list. We came by our car and didn't faced any sort of difficulties parking there. Some places of the fort is in the stage of nearly ruined but restoration work is going on.
Sprawling greeneries around the whole premise striked us and we liked the whole architecture of that place. Visiting Kumubera may not be in your list of usual visit but you can give it a try for some unusual efforts! Happy journey ☀😄

Exceptionally small is known approximately who built it, when and what was this structure all almost. Pleasant put to visit of you're excited by authentic places and structures

It is a place which is 200 kms away from Kolkata. One can spend 1/2 hours over there with family also. If you are coming from Kolkata then take the right turn from Belda Crossing. Google Map will show you another route before Belda Crossing which is wrong, do not follow it. Take your lunch on Highway as you will not have any restaurant nearby of it.

This fort was situated around 1437AD by Utkal king Gajapati Kapilendra Dev. It is not a perfect fort like architecture as because it didn't hosted perfect war management system. However it's architecture depicts ancient utkal heritage. Utkal is now known as Odissa. Actually it is apprehended that the place was built for closed wall arena for open air artistic performance and puja of Hindu goddess. Later around 1752, during Mughal rule, under the Samrat Aurangajeb it was transformed to a mosk. Recently the heritage place is under the surveillance of ASI.

A treasure under coal mine. Beautiful place for spending a day. There is small shops by local people, also a free public toilet. Some structure collapsed, some are restored, Archeological dept should maintain. Best place for photography 🤩

The Sun Dynasty of Orissa was built during the reign of King Gajapati Kapilendra Dev in 1438-1469 (inscribed in Oriya inscriptions), and also contains structures built by Mohammad Tahir (stone inscription) during the reign of Aurangzeb. Despite being a protected monument under ASI, no information is available about this fort. In 1568, the Afghan Sultanate of Bengal and Bihar invaded Orissa, which included the undivided Midnapore district of West Bengal. Later, Odisha was captured by the Mughals in 1575 after defeating the Afghans of Bengal at the Battle of Tukroi. They divided the Odisha subah into five governments and this part became part of the Jalesar government. Although religiously inspired invasions by Mughal generals in Orissa occurred from time to time, they became more frequent during the reign of Aurangzeb. Aurangzeb's forces looted many temples in Orissa, including Medinipur. Aurangzeb also issued a fatwa to demolish the Jagannath temple. During the reign of Aurangzeb, the Kurumbera fort and temple complex were attacked and converted into a mosque.
