Ahmedabad's Sidi Saeed Mosque was built by a courtier of Sultan Nasiruddin Mahmood III, Sidi Saeed. An Abyssinian by birth, the Sidi had come to India by way of Yemen and had risen to a position of considerable wealth and power. He was also known for his generosity and works of charity. This mosque was built in 1572 CE, and when Sidi Saeed died in 1576, he was buried here.

The mosque is quite modest in size but has exquisitely carved stone screens depicting the tree of life.

The mosque is still in use, so please be appropriately dressed when you visit - no shorts or other revealing clothes. Also, shoes must be taken off before you enter. The main building of the mosque is off-limits to women.

No entrance fee is charged.

One of the least visited mosques in Ahmedebad. The grounds are kept very clean. A beautiful small mosque.

Beautiful architecture, IIMA logo is taken from here.

The logo of the IIM A institute has the motif of the 'Tree of Life'. The logo is inspired by a carved stone latticework jaali in the 16th century mosque of this Siddi Saiyyad mosque in old part of Ahmedabad.

The Sidi Sayed Mosque popularly known as “Sidi Sayad Ni Jali” in Gujarat. It is located in Old Ahmedabad near Lal Darwaja.

The Sidi Sayed Mosque is famed for its exquisite jali windows, spider web fine, depicting the intricate intertwining branches of the ‘tree of life’ that is best seen from the road that runs along the back of the mosque. The central arch of the mosque is also bereft of the intricate latticework, making the eyes go straight to the main stunning work at the back wall. The mosque still functions as a place of prayer.

Popularly known as Sidi Sayed ni Jali the mosque was built in the period 1572–73 AD by Sidi Sayed. It was the same year that the Mughals conquered Gujarat. Sayed was an Abyssinian saint of African descent who served in Ahmed Shah’s army. He was from a community distinct in culture and appearance that lives in parts of Gujarat even today.

Visitors would appreciate the artistic splendour as they gaze at the majestic Tree of Life window that has a tree intertwined with its branches, foliage, curved tendrils and palm motifs. It is believed that the mosque was built by the last Sultanate and due to the invasion of the Mughals; the sacred complex could not be completed as planned.

A central window arch of the mosque remains incomplete as such stands walled with stones and the two structures at the entrance leading to the courtyard seems to be the two incomplete towers.

It is a Heritage Structure & under maintained by A S I.

You'll find the most intricate jaali carvings here in this mosque. The same jaali is used in the IIM Ahmedabad logo. A UNESCO World Heritage site.

Sidi saiyyed mosque is near Teen Dawaja & Bhadrakali Mandir, it is known for its architectural styles and the marvellous windows or jalis that fascinates visitors on sight and as such it is often referred to as Sidi Saiyad ni Jali. It is more prominent for the stone latticework. Lattice stone work Jali gained so much prominence that it proved to be the inspiration for the design of the logo of the Indian Institute of Management in Ahmedabad.

The Sidi Saiyyed Mosque, popularly known as Sidi Saiyyid ni Jali, this is one of the most famous mosques of Ahmedabad, a city in the state of Gujarat, India.

As attested by the marble tablet fixed on the wall of the mosque, it was built by Shaikh Sa'id Al-Habshi Sultani. Sidi Sa'id was originally a slave of Rumi Khan,

One the most gorgeous stone carved jaali in India. This coming from a fab of Mughal architecture and jaali work. This is just an outstanding piece of art and architecture. The artist has carved the stone as if it was a sheet of paper and he had the freedom to cut through it with the stroke of a knife. This is the symbol of the city and truly deserves that recognition.

This mosque located at a distance of 1.5 km from Ahmedabad city was made in the 16th century, which is the last mosque built during the Mughal reign. In this mosque, a tree picture has been prepared by carving on a stone, which is famous all over the country. You will be stunned after seeing this carving of stone...
The mosque is entirely arcuated and is known for its ten intricately carved stone latticework windows (jalis) on the side and rear arches. The rear wall is filled with square stone pierced panels in geometrical designs. The two bays flanking the central aisle have reticulated stone slabs carved in designs of intertwined trees and foliage and a palm motif. This intricately carved lattice stone window is the Sidi Saiyyed Jali, the unofficial symbol of city of Ahmedabad and the inspiration for the design of the logo of the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad.
The central window arch of the mosque, where one would expect to see another intricate jali, is instead walled with stone. This is possibly because the mosque was not completed according to plan before the Mughals invaded Gujarat.

There is a mosque in the middle of Ahmedabad.
The pride and glory of Ahmedabad.
Heart of Ahmedabad: This Mosque.

It is called Sdi Sayyid Masjid because the Jali in this Masjid tells how the religion of Islam spread.
Not everyone knows this story.

I went there today and it was really soothing experience. I'm a Hindu but my Muslim brothers warm welcomed me and I even sat on the praying floor. It was a soothing experience and the people are really friendly. Being a holy place, don't forget to remove your footwear before entering. 5 stars to this place from my side. Will definitely visit once again.

I strongly doubt that beneath this mosque, there exists the ruins of Ganesha Temple. As in a Hindu Country how a mosque be set up in the heart of the city?

A Tapestry of Stone and Light: Enchantment at the Sidi Saiyyed Mosque
Yesterday, the vibrant tapestry of Ahmedabad unveiled one of its most dazzling threads: the Sidi Saiyyed Mosque. Rising amidst the bustle of the old city, it whispered tales of a forgotten legacy, an ode to faith etched in stone and light.

Stepping across the threshold, I found myself swallowed by an embrace of intricate beauty. The mosque unfolded like a poem, each archway a verse, each latticework panel a delicate rhyme. Ten jali windows, crafted from yellow sandstone, adorned the walls. Sunlight, filtering through their geometric webs, cast dancing patterns on the floor, weaving a kaleidoscope of shadows and light.

The "Tree of Life" jali, the mosque's crowning glory, took my breath away. Its delicate branches intertwined, leaves unfurling in intricate detail, a testament to the skill of long-forgotten artisans. In that moment, I was transported to a verdant sanctuary, a whispered echo of the Garden of Eden woven into stone.

Beyond the visual brilliance, the mosque emanated a profound sense of tranquility. The silence, broken only by the murmur of prayers and the cooing of pigeons, offered a refuge from the city's din. It was a space of devotion, a haven for quiet contemplation, and a testament to the unifying power of faith.

As I left the Sidi Saiyyed Mosque, its spell lingered. It wasn't just a historic monument; it was a cultural bridge, connecting me to the vibrant tapestry of Ahmedabad's past. It was a reminder of the enduring beauty that can be born from faith, skill, and a touch of the divine. And somewhere, amidst the sunlight and shadows, I carried away a sliver of its magic, a whisper of its story resonating in my heart.

Majestic and dazzling, Ahmedabad's iconic Sidi Saiyyed Mosque, or "Sidi Saiyyed ni Jali" as locals call it, is a treasure of both Ahmedabad and India. From the stunning laticework of the jalis to the beautiful turquoise water of the ablution pool, Sidi Saiyyed Mosque is the true epitome of perfection. The air has a magical feel to it whenever I see the ornate jalis of the mosque. The delicate stone latticework jumps from its confines and speaks to me. It speaks to me of grand empires. It speaks to me of wonderful people. It speaks to me of an evergreen city on the banks of the Sabarmati. I'm truly speechless after seeing this masterpiece. Yet, still, I can speak volumes about this place. Sidi Saiyyed ni Jali is a magnificent representation of the city of Ahmedabad. Hope Ahmedabad prospers and more people understand the true value of the world's heritage sites. ❤ 🇮🇳

P.S. The awesome caretaker of the mosque gave me a detailed overview of the mosque's rich history and the meaning of the jalis' designs. Thank you to him and more like him.
