Sri Anantha Shayana Gudi

Have been going here since childhood. One of the best places in Karkala to spend evening time sitting on the temple corridors to chitchat softy with friends. Lots of space inside the temple compounds. Very clean and well maintained. You also get washroom & water inside.

Its a very old temple in Karkala. Peaceful and very divine feeling you will get when you take Darshana here. The idol is at resting position and its very rare view of Gods darshan. There no much rush and seva counters were also not available. There is some work ongoing in the premises of temple. Sit here for few minutes and meditate to feel the divine power

Peaceful temple.. quite close to chaturmukha basadi.. only disadvantage is there's no place to park vehicle near by. the road is also quite narrow. The main deity is Lord Vishnu, with lord Brahma sitting in a lotus coming from Lord Vishnu's belly button. We also see Goddess Lakshmi and Bhudevi seated near Lord Vishnu's feet.

Have to follow hindu dress code , western outfits strictly prohibited

More than 500 year old temple, at a distance of 37 Kms from Udupi & 50 Kms from Mangalore.
The magnificent idol of Lord Vishnu is carved out of a single black stone with Lord Brahma coming out of Vishnu's navel, and Sridevi and Bhudevi at his feet.
This temple is under the protection of Archaeological Survey of India.

An amazing and must visit temple complex. The Lord Anantha Shayana is so beautiful to watch. We understand, he is carved out of a single stone. A well maintained temple complex. Parking is available close to temple. The complex is not wheelchair friendly. Generally not crowded. A place not to be missed.

A temple with history, heritage, and calmness attached to it. Absolutely peaceful place. Recommended you visit it often.

Temple is good but government needs to do a lot of renovation. This temple is under Archaeological survey of India.

This temple is situated near Sri Venkata Ramana Temple (about 1 Km) & Chaturmukha Basadi (about 1 Km).
This temple was originally a Jain Basadi in 15th century. During that time, Sringeri Jagadguru Sri Narasimha Bharathi Swamiji came to Karkala and the Jain King gave him a warm welcome. But Swamiji said he will stay only if there is a temple with Lord installed in it. The king gave the Jain Basadi to His Holiness Sringeri Swamiji and installed a stone sculptured of Lord Vishnu.

This temple was originally a Jain Basadi in 15th century. During that time,  Sringeri Jagadguru Sri Narasimha Bharathi Swamiji came to Karkala and the Jain King gave him a warm welcome. But Swamiji said he will stay only if there is a temple with Lord Vishnu installed in it. The king agreed but didn’t have the idol of Lord.The swamiji then informed the King that there is an idol of Lord Anantha Padmanabha Swamy immersed in a small river in Nellikar.To the King’s surprise the idol was found in the river and later the prathistapana was done.
Thus the king gave his Basadi to His Holiness Sringeri Swamiji and installed a magnificently sculpted stone idol of Lord Vishnu in sleeping position.

This temple is the one of the heritage of our town. Oldest temple of Lord narayana. Few Among the temples of India you will find a shayana ananthapadmanabha is in karkala. Karnika, peaceful nd soo divine.

Best and most calm temple tho it's in city just a vist to the temple makes your day it's one of the oldest temple and is said to be built by a jain king...

Very proud that my town has such a temple coz personally i feel an Ananta temple is very rare..havent come across many of these.. aarti takes place early in the afternoon..

The history of this temple starts way back when one Jain king was ruling Karkala was influenced by a Madhwa sanyasi ...the king urged him to visit his kingdom at Karkala.... The sanyasi said he can but only when the king has a temple in his kingdom... Dedicated to Vishnu.... King agreed but din had any idol.... The sanyasi then said the king there is a idol of Ananth Padmanabha swamy immersed in a small river in nellikar and to his surprise he got the present idol the lord.... The king then made the prathishtha if the idol made of black nellikar shile.... The idol is very huge... And interesting ly the outer sanctum is a Jain basadi architecture only the inner sanctum resides the diety which is clear proof of the history narrated... The king din had predecessors so he approached this sanyasi... It is believed.... Any how a historical monument and is under ARCHEOLOGICAL SURVEY OF INDIA

Beautiful place which is in center of the karkala town it is a historic temple and I like this place because this place looks beautiful if it old but temple is good
