A very calm place that gives you an ancient feeling, there is a bamboo forest inside the temple which has been preserved since ages, that's a must visit. Vinayagar sabai is another highlight.
You should plan on coming with your own vehicle otherwise there is not much public transport availability in here.

Serene temple in Tirupachur area, close to Tiruvallur Town. Not so crowded during normal days.

Said to be about 1500 years old, laid with stones all around, typical of oldage shiva temples in TN. Lord Shiva as vaseeswarar is presiding deity.

The recently introduced Annadanam scheme feeds poor with lunch on a daily basis.

It is maintained by Tiruttani Murugan Temple Committee.

The Thirupachur Vaacheeswarar temple is at a distance of about 3-4 kms from Thiruvallur on the Thiruvallur to Thiruttani route. It is one of the 276 Paadal Petra Shivasthalams. The main deity is Lord Shiva in the form for Vaacheeswarar and Sri Pasupathi Nayaki (Parvathy). The legend is that the Swamybu Lingham is hurt during the cleaning of the bushes, got a scar and started bleeding. Hence, there is no puja in the temple by touching the deity. The temple is open from 8 AM to 12:30 and 4 PM to 8 PM

This temple is one among the 276 Paadal Petra Sthalam for Lord Shiva. He graces devotees as Sri Thangathali Ammai sametha Sri Vacheeswarar.

There are 2 legends associated with each of the names of the Lord here:
1. Sri Pachu Nathar: The place this temple has been constructed upon was a bamboo forest earlier and a shepherd used to trip at the exact same spot everyday spilling milk. Annoyed, the shepherd while cleaning the bamboo forest hit upon the Swayambhu linga which started bleeding due to the cut of the axe. The Linga still carries the cut and since the Lord was found amidst the bamboo forest (Pasu or moongil), He is called Thiru Pasunathar

2. Sri Pambatteeswarar: A King, who was a Shiva devotee and a local chieftain, who was a Kali devotee once disagreed on taxes. Lord Shiva sent Nandi, when He heard the chieftain has taken Goddess Kali's help to defeat the King. Nandi defeated Goddess Kali and bound her using gold chains to her feet. In frustration, the chieftain sent a secret box with a poisonous snake as a gift to the King, who was saved by Lord Shiva in the form of a snake charmer, before he could open the gift. Hence, Lord is called "Pambatteeswarar" or snake charmer

The temple is quite huge, but with decent maintenance and only 1 priest to perform the pooja for all sannithis. There are separate shrines for Ganesha (11 Ganeshas in a Ganesha Sabha), Sri Chakram installed by Guru Adi Shankaracharya (just outside the Lord's sanctum), Subrahmanya, Dakshinamurthy, Maha Vishnu, Brahma, Durgai, Kala Bhairava, and Nava grahas

This temple has a powerful Prathishta that needs to be conserved and maintained with regular poojas and rituals. Google Maps direction is accurate and leads you right to the temple steps

OM NAMAH SHIVAYA
5kms from Tiruvallur town.
Glorified by all three Saints Thirugnana Sambandar, Thirunavukarasar and Sundarar in Thevaram.
Karikala Cholan was the first one who erected temple at this site.before that moolavar Lingam was found inside a deep forest containing bamboo trees.
Kurumban was a chieftain of this area.he had enemity with Chola king. War erupted and the mighty Cholas was unable to defeat Kurumban.Chola king prayed to Lord Shiva .
Lord Shiva sent Nandhi to assist in the war against kurumban and finally Chola became victorious.
Goddess Parvathi is called in a beautiful Tamil name called Thang Kadhali .Kadhali means lover and Shiva called Parvathi as her lover in this temple.
We can see 11 Vinayakar idols in a place in this temple. Lord Vinayakar was worshipped by his uncle Lord Vishnu.
Normally Thazham poo is not used for doing Pooja to Lord Shiva.
But in this temple Thazham poo is used during the Pooja in the night of Shivaratri .

This Temple is one of the padalpetra sivalayam in north Tamilnadu.
This temple is around 45 kms from Chennai on Thiruvallur Thirupathi road as soon as you cross Thiruvallur.
Drive time around 1 Hour.15 min
1) The temple area spans more than 3 acers, more than half of the area is cover by scrubs and bushes.
2) The place was covered by bamboo forest before the temple was built. The stories goes as there use to be a shepherd who goes gracing every day he comes upon and stumbles up on the same place every day, in the process of cleaning the bamboo scrubs with an axe, he accidentally cuts the Swayambu lingam in between the bamboo scrubs which starts to bleed, we can see the cut on the lingam even today.
3) The temple is said to be around 1500 years old.
4) Theirs is an old ruin mandapam at the right corner as soon you enter the temple.
5) The temple interiors are fairly well maintained.
6) The specialty of this temple is as soon as you enter the main shrine, Amman sanithi is there before moolavar sanithi.
7) One more Specialty of this temple is the VINAYAGAR SABAI Where 11 Vinayagars are there for dharshan for the devotees. It looks like they are in a meeting, Placed beautifully in different sizes ranging from 6 ft to ½ ft.
8) A very calm and quiet must visit temple. You can roughly spend 45min to an hour at the temple.

A big temple with a powerful deity. Positivity surrounds this temple. It's big.....needs more manpower to be maintained. The 11 Pillayar sabhai is a must for all those who adore Lord Ganesha.
