GARH MANDARAN PARK

The ruins of a fort at Garh Mandaran is the background / setting of an epoch making novel, Durgeshnandini by the Eminent Novelist, Bankim chandra Chatterjee, published in 1865. I had a desire to visit once at this historical place that effected on 31st December,18 , on the last day of the year. It is about 3km away from Kamarpukur , also a famous place , the birth place of Ramkrishna Paramhansa, in the district of Hooghly. WB,India. It is on the Kamarpukur- Gar Mandaran- Kajla road. Mandaran is a village under a GP in Goghat Block in Arambagh Sub-division of the Hooghly District.
But the tourist spot is very neglected. A moram road from the highway reaches the garh , a stretch of about 2km, the boundary wall is in a dilapidated condition. damaged in some parts, There is a Darga of Gaji & Pir saheb , the vast area has become a picnic spot. No deer park nor any peacock can be seen. There is a large tank, namely Kajla dighi afar. Being a last day of the year a few picnic party assembled there. Now a large gate is under construction. It was learnt that the administration has taken a program to beautify the garh to transform it a tourist spot in true sense.
