This is a must-visit in Chennai outskirts and perfect for a day out with family or friends. They have some amazing life-size replicas of South Indian culture and architecture. There's shopping, handicrafts, museum and an amphitheatre where we enjoyed a peppy folk performance.

Great place to visit for a half day trip.
The place is close to Mayajal and it has an entry fee of approximately 175 for adults and 100 Rs for kids. The fees for camera varies from 50-250 Rs. They charge extra for photo shoots as well.
This place houses various styles of homes across South India.
They have a restaurant as well. The houses in display are good and showcase the rich culture and architecture of the regions.
They also have a good exhibition as well.
You can plan to visit the crocodile park after this place, if you have time.
There is a nice vegetarian restaurant outside the premises and it is also crowded.
Kids can enjoy as well they have a small play area.
They have good rest rooms across the place.

If people are planning to construct a house in Laurie bakers architectural style then it's a place you should not miss. You may get an idea as majority of the entrance areas are constructed with exposed bricks,Jallis and rubble.
Apart from this there's different type of traditional houses of southern India.

Visiting DakshinaChitra Heritage Museum (The Living Museum) was a unique experience. Being Architect, I always admire traditional vernacular architecture and this is a treat to eyes. I feel every architectural student should visit this place to know more about Indian culture, civilisation and traditional vernacular architecture.

The Museum charges a basic entry fee but it’s worth it. You have a choice to view a small film about the culture, traditions and architecture of South India. I was lucky to meet Sharad Nambiar - Director and Anitha Pottamkulam - Director, Culture. Both of them have done and are doing amazing work. I hope and believe the local government and corporates will continue to support this initiative.

We can spend entire day at this museum. The project is ongoing and I will love to visit again after few years.

Amazing place to visit if you want to know about the traditions and culture of our states. We visited during the Pongal festival so it was very crowded. There are restaurants inside which serve good food.

They have each states sectors where different activities are conducted like pottery, glass blower, bullock cart ride, puppet show, entertainment, live sketching, old method of grinding rice which we can also try for a nominal fee of 10/- to grind the rice in the traditional stone mehndi art,Kalamkari paintings and loads of shopping..

A must visit.

A must visit place around Chennai, on the way to Mahabalipuram/Pondicherry. It houses multiple models of houses from various regions in South India and also household items used in old times. They have done a great job presenting our heritage and culture. Also, there are demo exibits of potter, puppet making, block printing etc. And live performances of folk art also conducted. The campus is green and well maintained. Ticket can be purchased from their website.

I loved this place. And it's located on ecr. Reasonable amount to visit this place. We can see all South Indian house types and their used materials. There are not that many collections from Andhra and Karnataka but they have enough collections. And ₹175 for adults. Students pass available for below 18 years of age.Canteen food meals ₹160+GST5% with limited rice. I'm not satisfied with the canteen service.

Absolutely authentic and wonderful place to see. Must see in my eyes. So fascinating how close different religions and ethnic groups embossed this country through the centuries. Wonderful art and crafts work can be seen. And lucky me I visited on a holiday so they had many attractions to see. And even the market of artist who are coming from outside to sell their products. It was absolutely amazing

It's a good place to spend a day, it's good for people interested in architecture, hand crafts, art, pottery, cultural dance, nature. Snacks and tea are good. Parking under the trees was great. The place is clean and well maintained.

At all visiting halls at least fans should be switched ON, few of the halls smell bad.
