Immaculate Conception Church - Serampore

A beautiful church at the heart of Serampore. Please visit during 25th December / 1st January to get a feel of this place. The decorate the whole precinct with lights & it feels like a mini park street at the heart of Serampore.

Location of the church is very beautiful, just bank of the Ganges. This beautiful church was built in 1776. Cheshire Home is situated at same campus which is for diffently able persons. If you wanna feel good, so go there and spend some times with them . A oldage home is also be there.

Catholic Church!
Yes, this is a prime example of how a Catholic Church should be like. Dated back from pre-mughal era, Immaculate Conception Church holds immense history. Danish government in 1764 constructed this piece of art. Recently, with the joint venture of Danish and WB govt. many such religious places were renovated. We visited this place in Christmas Eve and delighted to see such grandeur.

This church is a big attraction of Serampore's history and beautiful surroundings. This place near the Ganges attracts a lot of attention. This church is also associated with old age homes and orphanages, and many social works.

A small chapel was first built in 1764 for the traders and Portuguese settlers who came from Chandennagore. The present beautiful church was built in 1776 and in 1783 was dedicated to Madre de Deos . This title was changed by a decree of the congregation of Rites, about 1869 to the one of the Immaculate conception of the B.V.M. In 1843 an attempt was made to start a Novitiate for Loreto Nuns and free K. G. School. Between 1866. 1872 it was used as Jesuit Novitiate in 1957 the Presbytery became a Cheshire Home and the catholic population spread over Serampore.

A two storey presbytery was built and the church was given a mezzanine floor in 1994. The rededication of the Church was done on 4th December, 1994 Tarakeswar Mission was started in 1999. Kunjobon village chapel was blessed on 18th June 2000.

Such a nice place near Gangar Ghat and the church is so beautiful and well maintained... Also the sisters are so welcoming and cooperative... Also the other faculties are really very helpful.... God bless them♥🌼

My wife shares her time and distributes breakfast to the needy (who are taken care of by the church here) on Dec 24 every year.

There is a very small catholic community in Serampore. The church serves this area and is combined with ashram. It is a historic place, the facade is old but not very sure about the rear building.
