The Sacred Heart Church was inaugurated on 27 January 1884 by Paul Goethals, the Archbishop of Calcutta. Construction started in 1875, during the rule of the French East India Company in Chandannagar, and was completed in 1884 at the instance of Rev. M. Barthet, assisted by his brother Joachim.It was designed by French architect Jacques Duchatz.

The Sacred Heart Church of chandannagar was designed by the French architect Jacques Duchatz and was inaugurated on 27 January 1884 by Dr.Paul Goethals S. J. in the presence of Rev. Pere Corbet. It is one of the best example of French establishments in India. This ancient architecture is still full of beauty and glory. The interior of the church is mesmerizing because of the beautifully coloured glasses.

Sacred Heart Church is situated adjacent of strand of the Chandernagore. It was a French colony. This church was designed by the French architect Jacques Duchatz. You will see beautiful decoration during Chrisman festival  and huge people are gathered during said time, but 25th December Church is closed.

It is one of the oldest church of Bengal. Situated on the banks of the Ganges it has all the beauty to enrich ones holy feeling. Christmas is the best time to visit the church. It is closed after 7 pm. Many food stalls are also available nearby. It is a pride of our city.

My visit to Sacred Heart Church on New Year's day was long awaited dream. From the chanting of the prayers to the Sunday Sermon was truly vivid, peaceful and spiritual.

I visited Sacred Heart Church on Christmas eve and it had every bit of magical glory that one can expect from Christmas. The entire church was beautifully lit up, the roads were beautifully decorated, the entire Strand Road was clean and organized.
There was the evening mass was going on and everyone was allowed in. The street adjoining to it was full of people who were enjoying themselves.
This is a must go for anyone and everyone. The Chandannagore Strand just beside the church also serves as an amazing backdrop with the Ganges lazily flowing by.

Sacred heart church is built on the bank of river Hooghly (Ganges) at the year 1691 british india by a group of holy people in the city Chandannagar which was built approx in the year 1695. It is a beautiful church. You can offer your prayers to Jesus very peacefully. It is treated as a crown on strand road, Chandannagar.

Here, you will be amazed by some stunning and exceptional architecture, that takes you back in time. It is a very peaceful place to spend time and offer prayers to Lord #Jesus. Although it is not as big as the Bandel Church, yet it is definitely one of the most well-maintained churches you will come across. Recommended to visit. 👍
