Omkareshwar Dam

Omkareshwar Dam is built over Narmada River near Omkareshwar Temple which is just downstream.
Built during 2003-2007. Has a height of 53 m. Helps in irritation and production of 525 MW of electricity.
Boat ride is available from Omkareshwara Temple on both banks of Narmada. However boats are spewing polluting black smoke and are noisy.
Sunrise and sunset provide pleasant views.

Amazing temple and atmosphere...truly mesmerising views everywhere...must visit place....

As name suggests Omkareshwar dam is constructed near Omkareshwar Temple. It is hydro power project generating electricity. It also provides irrigation water to the area nearby. It's a blessing to the people ઓસ Madhya pradesh. Water released from Omkareshwar dam is goes to Sardar Sarovar narmada dam of Gujarat.

Got an opportunity to visit the dam while I was on the way to have a darshan of Omkareshwar Jyothirling. It is a very big dam constructed on the river of Narmada. Very well constructed and maintained. It provides water to lacs of acres of agriculture fields. Overall, Very happy to visit this place.

Omkareshwar Dam is a gravity dam on the Narmada River just upstream of Mandhata in Khandwa district, Madhya Pradesh, India². It was constructed between 2003 and 2007 with the purpose of providing water for irrigation of 132,500 ha (327,000 acres)². It is named after the Omkareshwar temple located just downstream².

Nice place and peaceful

Omkareshwar and Mamleshwar hold great significance and shouldn't be left out during Ujjain trip. The journey takes approx 3hrs from Ujjain- best mode is to hire a cab; AC Indigo will be around 2500 bucks for round trip. Pls ensure you reach latest by 11am as the temple closes at 12.20 for rituals and the darshan queue stops for almost an hour or so. Would be even better if you purchase the VIP ticket that costs Rs 100 per head as it's crowded, though relatively much lesser than Mahakaaleshwar temple. You can perform Jal abhishek and have good darshan. After the Omkareshwar darshan, one should cross river Narmada and proceed to Mamleshwar on the opposite bank. The temple here isn't as crowded as Omkareshwar and will take max 15 mins to perform the jal abhishek. One can return to Ujjain by 6.30pm after a short visit to Khajrana temple at Indore.
