Very very ancient temple. This temple is not much so popular in our Tourist map. But it is like Thiru maiyam temple and it is in main city Pudhukottai.

Government should take more efforts to explore this temple.

The ancient temple of Shri Kokarneswarar and Shri Bragathambal in Pudukkottai is 1400 years old, evidenced by inscription dated to the period of Mahendraverma - the Pallava king. Considered as oldest temple in South where regular pujas and worship are held. Portions of temple are actually rock cut structures. Sri Kokarneswarar in the form of large linga in the sanctum. The temple is more popularly known as Sri Bragathambal temple and also as Araikasu Amman temple ( people pray here to find their lost things) The gopurams are under renovation now.

One of the oldest functioning historical temple in Pudukkottai town. Visiting for the first time, was impressed by the architecture and the ambiance of temple.
It is maintained by TNHRCE dept, needs more maintenance as the temple premises looks bit dirty.

The entire temple is constructed inside a rock cave,so it looks beautiful which has a connection with Pudukkottai kingdom- The Thondaimaan Family

Some deities are present in the rock cave which is worth visiting.
The sculptures are well sculpted and gives a great experience.
The Amman here has another name which is Araikaasu Amman which is quite popular among localities.Shivan and lingam looks great.Murugan is located in top of rock.
Overall a must visit temple for exploring the beauty and architecture of this temple.

Car parking is little bit difficult as the temple lies in roadside, car can be parked in th crosscut roads.

Shivan called the gokarneswarar and Ambal called as Brahadhambal, also called as Arai Kaasu Amman. Massive structure with many pillars. Well maintained. Has got many layers meaning some Dieties are on the first floor. Not much of car parking.

Thirukokaranam within Pudukkottai is a nice and different temple. Temple under renovation for mahakumbhabhishekam.
It has many levels. The main shivaling is carved out of a hillock, beautiful architecture with different styles of the kings of that region added. Big shivalingam. As we climb steps, different sub shrines including murugan, Lakshmi, Saraswathi and others. Can see the vimanam views from the top. Unjal seva was going on and nice decorations done. Temple maintained clean and priests are friendly

A quite little “actually big “ temple in the pudukottai city, some 120 km from Madurai. The temple is in the old form where the “sannathi “ sanctum Santorum is facing east but the Entrance is not from the east. The belief is that if you loose something anywhere, she will find it for you. Also there is a huge Lingam and huge vinayagar. You can access the temple upper floor close to the vimanam, Via stairs.
The temple is built in a rock formation , which is used to prop the pillars and also has a small pond in the upper levels of the temple - the rock has formed a natural reservoir. Neatly maintained and well established.

Brahadambal temple, Thirukokarnam is situated just about 5 kms from Pudukkottai. This temple was built by the Thondaman Kings rulers who were ruling Pudukkottai. Arulmighu Brahadambal sametha Gokarneshwarar temple at Thirukokarnam is of Mahendraverma Pallava’s period. It is a rock cut temple. The presiding deity is Gokarneshwarar and His consort is Brahadambal. Additions have been made periodically to this temple. Various inscriptions are found in this temple that provides a glimpse into its rich past. The various rulers like Pandya, Pallavas and Nayaks have contributed a lot to the temple. The sthala vruksham is Vakula tree known as Mahizha Maram.

Historic and culturally important temple . The goddess was guardian deity of The Pudukottai Royal Family. The core shrine is an ancient rock cut dedicated to the Shivalingam named Gokarneshwarar. The structural part is partly Pandyan and partly Vijayanagar in style. The Goddess is popularly called Arai Kasu Amman , due to a kind of Vow pilgrims make to propitiate her., The large sculptures in the mahamantapa are attractively carved. With many corridors and subshrines , the temple is spread across three stages: from the cave ( lower) to the roof ( upper ).

One of the oldest temple nearby Pudukkottai, Trichy. Amman was as like custodian to the ancient rulers of Pudukkottai. If any valuables things are lost due to unforeseen happens and to keep faith on our prayers to get back the lost valuables. Once after getting the stolen or lost valuables things to offer jaggery some quantity as per our convenience as soon as when our prayers were answered accordingly.

Need a lot of maintenance in temple. A very painful thing observed is many lovers come there write lovers names and makes love symbols all over the temple walls or within the garbagruha of some deities. Probably, these kind of stupid things happen in hindu temples only. It's an old monument and a divine place, making the prestigious place shabby, is truly very hurtful. The guys who spoil the holiness of the temple, will surely get suitable punishments by the Almighty. Soon or later. Kindly refrain such guys from involving in these kind of incidents.
Om Nama Shivaya! !!

Temple is built on a mount by carving the mount. This looks really good . Built by the king of puthukottai.

To reach the temple from puthukottai bus stand , you to hire an auto rickshaw. They will ask you 300rupees if you bargain you can save 60 rs max. But make sure u visit another nearby temples as well.
If you have a car then it is 10 mins drive from puthukottai bus stand .

Don't hire any auto rickshaw because they ask you 50ruppes for less than 1km distance.
About the temple now...
You can see the kokarneswar uphill (not very high but 10 feet) above the brahathambal sanathi.
There is a pond (water tank) built by carving the top the mount such a way it holds good amount of water.
The steps towards the roof top water tank is bit skiddy but worth entering.
The holy statues are done Abhisheka with the water taken from the water tank (sacred pond).
It is said the tank never went dry till date.
I don't see any algae formation on the water.

Few places looks unbuilt but not sure that is the design or not unbuilt.

There is a tree inside the temple looks really old and maintained.
Temple is clean and good.
This will be opened from morning 6 AM to 12 PM and 4 PM to 9 PM everyday.

Priest and Poojas looks authentic .
Brahathambal sanathi is really good and said to be powerful goddess.

In the entrance wall the Kingsley men pictures are depicted.

Temple Entrance to inside temple is about 30 mtrs walk.

Temple is big and it appears that is a plain but actually it is built on mount.
That statues are really good and Could be maintained properly.
I had a very good experience out there.
