Beautiful ancient temple and best example of stone carving.

Already showing temple Google map was incorrect and tourist get confused.

I corrected map address suggested Google to change it.

But most of the tourist posted pictures are wrong. Need to re edit pictures and Google map so tourist will get exactly information same as per Google map.

This temple was buit in 1117AD during the chola dynasty. It is situated in Talakadu, Karnataka. A very nice place for a one day trip. It is around 150 km from bangalore. I booked a cab from Utaxi who took 3000/- from Bangalore for a Tata Indica AC car. The trip included Talakadu temple, kaveri river bank, Shivanasamudram falls and temple. Overall it was a nice experience. You can take a guide in the talakadu temple who will take 200/- and explain you all the details. There are 5 temples in the area. Most of the people don't realise it and end up seeing just one.

Best time to visit -- During July-August if you want to enjoy the beauty of shivanasamudram waterfall.

Total cost -- Around 3500 if you book a cab, and 2000 if you drive your own vehicle.

Lunch -- near kaveri river (cost - 50-60 per person)

A place with 5 temples. Beautiful and attractive idol of keerthinarayana swami. A historical place. Must visit. Non crowdy and peaceful place to visit. A small story is behind the area which to be known before visit or after. Big idol of sivalinga was awesome and attractive. Loved the place. Place name talakadu.

After walking from Sri Vaidyanatheshwara temple, we arrive at this ancient and self manifested Shivalinga temple. This is part of Pancha (5) Lingas. Main temple is quite below adjacent ground level and hence a boundary has been built to prevent sand collection around the temple during rainy season. But temple priest expressed that this boundary wall is unable to prevent any sand coming inside and hence this accumulated sand needs to be removed manually almost on a regular basis.

Very old Hindu Temple of Shiva. Pathaleshwara Temple is another popular pilgrimage site in Talakad. It is considered to be one amongst the earliest temples constructed by Ganga kings in this town. The prime attraction of Pathaleshwara Temple is its Shivalingam, which changes colour at different points of the day.

After Vydyanatheshwara temple visit, you must walk through sand path which directs to rest of the temples, the first being pathaleshwara swamy temple, which has the residing deity Lord Shiva. Path is bit harder for elders as you need to walk longer on sand to reach each temples.

The best part of the approach is the roofed sand walkway from the beach, and you plod slowly along the green line shown in the map.
When I first saw this almost fifty years ago, the excavation was incomplete. Thirty years ago we were able to enter the tempe. Now the temple is fortified well. The temple is well maintained, but we stayed only a few minutes.

Very nice place. It has a historical background of centuries.
But bit tiring to walk over all the temples in sand. Walk path has a shelter and provides a good protection from sun and heat.

It once had 30 temples and most of them are not covered under sand.
