Writing a concise review for Ayur Jyothi is undoubtedly a challenge because my time at the hospital (1 month the first time and 1 week the second time) was the result of many firsts – my first time ever battling a digestion issue (that had turned chronic), the first time battling ANY health affliction for over 2 weeks, my first time seeking solace in the realm of Ayurveda after 5 months of failed treatments in New York City, my first time in a residential clinic, and my first time having doctors personally invested in my recovery after I had given up hope with every day of my life being a variation of a living nightmare.
Most of you reading this review are probably wondering whether Ayur Jyothi delivers on expectations. I can comfortably say that they do. I used to be an Ayurveda skeptic with minimal expectations as I checked into the Ayur Jyothi clinic. After a battery of tests (stool tests, colonoscopy, endoscopy, CT scan, breath tests for H Pylori and Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth), I was finally diagnosed with both Hydrogen dominant and methane dominant SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial overgrowth). After three failed antibiotic treatments over a span of 3.5 months, with my symptoms of slow-transit constipation related pain and more than 8 bathroom visits per day (including in the middle of the night where I had to wake up in pain to go to the bathroom) getting progressively worse, I had given up on the idea of ever recovering. Life was miserable to say the least. I took a chance on Ayur Jyothi out of frustration with the inadequacies of the system in New York (I live here).
Dr Remyn and Dr Mannachan from Ayur Jyothi were upfront about expectations. They indicated that I could expect at least a 70% recovery over a period of a month as an in-patient at Ayur Jyothi. They checked in on me daily and monitored daily changes in symptoms after my daily treatment regimen. Their empathy throughout was exemplary- and their acknowledgment of what I had gone through before ending up at their clinic was a level of understanding I had not received earlier so it was greatly appreciated. They were incredibly reassuring every step of the way and were always reachable and super responsive to any urgent outreaches. What truly struck me as different about them is that the daily appointments with them were as long as they needed to be. They were not looking at their watches or giving me a hard time cut-off to say whatever I needed to as far as my symptoms were concerned.

Within the first 5 days, I stopped waking up in pain in the middle of the night. It is worth noting that this is the first bit of relief I had for my night-time symptoms after 5 months of NOT having a full night’s sleep. The relief was priceless. My first ray of belief in the doctors here started to emerge at this point. As they had promised, I left the clinic feeling 70 % better and still have a little way to go before declaring my battle with SIBO over – but they gave me hope, something that I had lost every single day that I was floundering in the months that led up to me checking into Ayur Jyothi.

Dr Mannachan, Dr Remyn, and the amazing staff at Ayur Jyoti are treasures of the sort we rarely have the privilege of coming across in our lives. They have been a lifeline for me at a time when I felt completely hopeless and demoralized. The treatment here felt personal and NOT transactional. In fact, I dread going back to a regular doctor’s clinic after my experience here since it will undoubtedly pale in comparison to the attention and care I received at Ayur Jyothi. Even at a distance, they have continued to support me in the last leg of recovery and my world is a better place because of them.

It goes without saying that I highly recommend the doctors and staff at Ayur Jyoti. My world is a brighter and happier place with them in it.
