WaterStone Guest House & Restaurant

Stayed at Waterstone for two nights and had breakfast and dinner twice. The room was good, clean and in good shape. Much better than I expected for the price. It has an awesome view on the river: just open up your door or windows and have the best view to wake up with. The (shared) bathroom is basic but everything is clean and works as expected (only cold water though).

The breakfast was good: we had banana pancakes, fresh fruit and 'kopi susu'. Dinner is inexpensive but properly cooked traditional Indonesian, all sourced from local ingredients and taste and presentation were good. The kitchen and restaurant are clean and hygienic. We loved that we got a lot of vegetable dishes with the menu. The staff is friendly and hospitable. Owner Udin (who speaks Bahasa, English and Dutch) was super friendly and helpful and we had great chats with him.

Would recommend to stay here if you are visiting Bukit Lawang and looking for a inexpensive but qualitative stay. Great stay for what you pay.

Tip: bring your own blanket, towels and mosquito net. There is no water tap but you can buy bottles of cold water at the restaurant.

Waterstone Guesthouse in the village of Bukit Lawang, Sumatra, exceeded all expectations. Udin, the owner, made me feel incredibly welcome. The food served here is simply divine, also the delicious banana pancakes with fresh tropical fruit for in the morning. Waterstone Guesthouse is the perfect base when planning to do the jungle trek, offering a cozy retreat after adventurous days. I'm already looking forward to returning soon.

Definitely the most beautifully designed restaurant in Bukit Lawang. The spring rolls are the best that I’ve ever tasted & the curries were delicious. We stayed in the apartment opposite the restaurant. It was very comfortable. Definitely recommend for food & a place to rest & relax.

Last week i stayed in Bukit Lawang, Sumatra, Indonesia. It’s a small village besides a river and 1 second away from the jungle. We stayed in guesthouse Waterstone. They have 4 rooms, a really nice living room, amazing view and the best food. The host is really kind and told us so much about Bulit Lawang. He speaks English, Dutch and Indonesian. It was a really nice place to stay, get to know the village and start our jungle trac. We left at 06:00 am after breakfast and did a 10 hour track. We saw the sunrise above the river, saw multiple orang utans, Thomas monkey’s, pigtaik monkey’s, Gibbons, toekans, a turtle and many more. We really enjoyed it!

Visited a month ago and absolutely loved it (we went for dinner two days in a row)! Best spring rolls we’ve ever eaten and delicious rendang. Highly recommend.

They have delicious, freshly cooked Indonesian food with a great ambiance in a beautiful setting. The host is extremely friendly and helpful in a relaxed way. Very warm guy. Besides being very knowledgeable about the national park and Sumatra, he also speaks English and Dutch very well which makes him a great source of information in case you have any questions regarding destinations or transportation.

We haven't slept there but without seeing to rooms I can heartily recommend staying here.

I honestly had one of the best meals of my life here.
There wasn't vegetarian food on the menu, but the owner prepared me a few different vegetable dishes and Rendang tofu and tempeh. Each dish was amazing.
The owner is also very friendly and the place itself is very beautiful decorated with wood and plants.

We booked 3 nights at Waterstone. The owner Udin was extraordinary friendly and organized everything for us: Jungle Tekking, Transport from Lake Toba, Transport to the airport. We could even let our stuff in the room overnight when we went to the jungle, just for a little fee.

Good food and location aswell. Absolutely recommandable!

Great stay right next to the river. Had a great view from my balcony. As it is quite far up the river you have a good view on the jungle. You can also bath in the river right in front of the accommodation.
The host Udin is very helpful. His English is great and as far as I can judge his Dutch as well.

Coming here's like visiting an old friend. Meet Mr. Udin. A very friendly person to talk to. His warm welcome will make your stay worth it. Oh yeah, I hope the restaurant can operate soon. It's nice to sit by the river and have a meal or coffee.

We went to Waterstone for dinner. The food was very good, Indonesian cuisine, and the prices were reasonable. The staff was friendly and attentive. The views were lovely as it's located next to the river. The space was spacious, and the tables were comfortable.

The food was delicious & the views are great!!! Best place to eat in Butik Lawang! Probably the best vegetarian curry in Indonesia. Exceptional service, reasonable prices and very friendly owner!

Gorgeous spot. Amazing view of the river and I spend a lovely afternoon in a hammock listening to the rain thundering down. Food and coffee and very cute cats great too.

The restaurant is very beautiful and we had the vegan Redang which was very delicious!
