Mount Leuser National Park

Incredible mountainous park. Price for a day long orangutan trek in the park should not cost more than $50. Park needs more trails and access points. No idea what work was done with $50 million USAID gave to the government for this park. Incredibly corrupt and lazy government here in Indonesia.

Incredible, untouched place that should be protected! We saw 6 orangutans in 4 days (including 2 babies) and we're overwhelmed by the stunning trees and general wildlife. Protect what you love!

Just superb. Deep into the jungle on a several day trek. So much to see, beautiful and wild. Insects, birds, reptiles, mammals, waterfalls, hot springs the list goes on. Wonderful people and great food, as usual. So hot and humid, so memorable for all the right reasons.

Amazing jungle treks from the Bukit Lawang Entrance!!! I signed up for a tour through Garden Inn with Lily as my guide! We did an overnight trek and saw 9 orangutans!!! SO AMAZING! The odds of you seeing a few orangutans (even for the one day trip) is very high. Note that these orangutans are semi-wild. Some of them have been rehabilitated after injury, rescue or abandonment and brought back into the jungle.

The jungle is beautiful and it is wonderfull to see al the animals. We had a 3 day Tour and saw so much. Do expert only basic overnights in the jungle. My advise is to bring a waterfilter because clean water is boiled on wood what gives the water a special taste.

Go for the orangutan trekking - which is an experience of a lifetime - but enjoy the many other species of animals in the park like the spikey-haired Thomas leaf monkey, black gibbons and macaques. And if you're lucky, you may even spot the Sumatran elephant, rhino and tiger. But be warned, the overnight treks are physically demanding for most people...
