This year (2023) Veszprém is the cultural capital of Europe. Assuring a really colorful cultural and gastronomical programs. Prepared for this plentitude of events the old part of the city is renovated carefully giving a nice experience for travelers who like historical walks in small cities around the lake Balaton.

My pics are so ugly but Veszprém is such a hidden masterpiece of Hungary. I rarely see Veszpém in the list of beautiful cities in Hungary to visit on the Internet but its beauty with nature and lovely architecture can blow your mind.
Definitely worth a 2-day visit because the vibe there is suitable for relaxing.

This is the focal point of the town. Situated atop a hill, you get great views of the surrounding areas. There are some gorgeous buildings around, moat of them still owned by the church. Well worth a visit.

Lovely castle hill. Romantic old streets, with authentic historical buildings. PLUS: You can enjoy the absolute unique, beautiful vista from the old fire tower..

I love this place, a quiet and picturesque, historic castle district of Veszprém. The buildings are mostly beautifully renovated, the streets are kept tidy. I'd love to see more places to sit here with a coffee and a biscuit...

Historic place, part of the world heritage. Since the founding of the state, the seat of the rulers, burial monuments in the original early Christian churches, royal tombs. It is the scene of many traditional cultural events and exhibitions.
Here you will find the Episcopal Palace and the institutions of the Hungarian Catholic Church.
From here you can access Mount Calvary to the Staties, at the end of which is the same statue of Christ as Rio de Janeiro.

It was one of the best surprise in Hungary - it has really great view from here. Maybe it;s not a city for a long trip, but it is "must see" place if you are around Balaton. I highly recommended it!

Great view of the town, definitely a must see and it is only a 5 minute walk from the centre. Many historical sights and lovely pebbled streets. There is a toilet during the day. There are a few museums and a great bar where usually jazz music is playing.

Ancient buildings from the middle age of Hungary. Fantastic feeling! Take a walk here! (Nowadays most of the buildings are under renovation.)

Outside of Budapest, maybe the best attraction in Hungary. Beautiful buildings and great scenery. Nice cafes and easy walking. Lot of museums and couple free of charge churches.

Very nice castle. The view from the "mountain" near it is mindboggingly beautiful, you can see everything you need to see. The castle itself is awesome likewise. Absolutely recommend visiting it.
