Cool abandoned castle on a hill overlooking Samobor. The hike up is pretty easy and you are rewarded with nice views of town as well as some exploring of the ruins.

The road to get to the start of the trail is closed so you can either park in town and walk over or drive around which takes around 15 mins.

Very impressive ruins! It is quite a steep hike up but is not far. The path is clear, but steep and slippery in spots, so you need the right shoes. Someone wrote that you could take a stroller up, but I would say that the path (at least the path we found) was WAY too steep for a stroller. Well worth the hike up!!!!

Castle is around 800 years old. The ruins are spectacular and has a great view of Samobor from the top. Ascension to the castle does not require special training, the trails are well conserved and it's just a 20-min walk to get to the top. Thick walls inmersed in vegetation, you feel like transported to Middle Ages. Samobor is just 30 min away from Zagreb by bus.

If you like explore, walk around the woods and claim some steps? This is the perfect castle for you. Since is on the top of the mountain.
The castle is very old around 1200s once you reach the castle you can have fun exploring each corner walking around the different levels of the castle.

The views of Samobor town are amazing.
Highly recommend it to visit this place

Supereasy climb (takes no more than 15 minutes), freshwater spring on the path (yes, fine to drink - water analysis chart next to it), a pristine forest reminiscent of dinosaur age, great location of a magnificent ruin just a short walk from one of the most romantic little cities a short drive from Croatia’s capital, Zagreb. Free entry (no entry) and efortless for the kids. Recommended.

The ruins of old castle of Samobor. It doesn’t make sense to schedule a lot of time for that place but the walk to the castle is highly recommended. The nature around is amazing and the view from the top is very beautiful.

Fantastic old ruined town and castle.

Very safe to wander around, no entrance fee.

We walked up via a very narrow steep section just behind St George's Church, that way you get to see the cute church.

But if you don't like the very steep sections, turn up the main path. Simply follow the creek path towards the castle, then when the footpath forks off (there is a sign at the fork talking about a swimming pool) take the left fork and head up the dirt path.

It is a lovely walk by the creek, and the hike up the hill is short and shady (you will need good shoes).

There are no shops or toilets up there.

It was super quiet when we did it on Wednesday morning about 10am, we only saw 2 other people at the castle.

Nice castle. Not so well preserved but that's how I like it. Very raw. It's not so easy to go there, you need to walk up to the top. But it has a nice view. Only encountered a couple there, so if you want a quiet place with no tourists that's the place to go. Be careful because there are no fences around some higher zones.

Make sure to use the path next to the horse enclosures (2 minutes away) and not next to the church which is the default (bad) route in Google. Ascent is only about 10 minutes.

Huge old fortress, castle, now ruin, overlooking Samobor town, with views towards Samobor, Zaprešić, Medvednica mountain and city of Zagreb in the distance. The walk (hike) from Samobor center to the castle will take around 30-40 minutes.

The better path up to the castle is from behind the swimming pool, not next to the church. The path next to the church which is the path recommended by Google is extremely steep and narrow. The path behind the swimming pool is wider and less steep. You will also pass a water fountain on the way when going up the path from the swimming pool.

One of my favorite hikes for exploring castle ruins. It’s about a 15 minute light to moderate hike up to the castle from Samobor center. Unfortunately there is a decent amount of trash up there from teenagers and inconsiderate visitors. But the castles beauty more than makes up for it. Great place for some amazing drone shots.

Very nice 13th century castle ruins close to center of Samobor city. Everything is very well restaurated and you can freely walk inside the ruins. Not to mention that entry is free of charge. Walk to the castle is throught the forrest and the path is mildly steep. It is a must place to visit if you are nearby.

When you visit Samobor take a 30 minute walk from the main square to the Old Castle. It's a great way to burn calories after you ate all that Kremšnita cakes 😁

Beautiful old ruin of a castle. Interesting history behind it. It's a 15min walk from the center of Samobor. Just follow the creek. There's a minor steep part but it's not that hard. All in all, great to see.

Nice walk in the park, a sightseeing tower on the top of the little hill and picturesque ruins of an old fort are a great opportunity for kids to explore and for some memorable photos.

This is the perfect place in Samobor to relax and enjoy the nature and the beautiful ruins and views that surround you. The visit to the castle is worth it even if you have to climb the hill a little bit, but it's like a very nice walk. A place where you can feel on top of the Samobor.

Very interesting and rather big old ruined fortress, just 15min walk along the river and uphill from a main town square of the town Samobor.
