Monkodonja, gradina, arheološko nalazište

Beautiful ruins nestled on top of a hill. Easy walk to access it. We got there just before 11am and were the only people there.

To access the site you need travel a couple of kilometers along a narrow gravel road. It's doable but one should be prepared for a rough ride. Views from the site are impressive. And the ruins themselves are an important part of the ancient historical landscape. The human need to feel secure found a form in fortified hilltop towns. I found it peaceful and intriguing.

Really impressive site, easy to wander round and is really well understood given the number of information boards all n4 different languages. Worth a quick half hour visit.

Even if you're not a history enthusiast it's a nice place to visit for a scenic view or picnic.
It is easily accessible with parking place in Kukoletovica next to Pula - Rovinj road. From there there are signs pointing to Monkodonja which is about 1km walk uphil.
For a few thousand year old structure it is in decent condition, and there are few informative boards with info panels on site.
There is no much shade on top, except underneath one oak tree.

Good place to visit, I went in the brain and was the only one there...but was an amazing atmosphere!

I love such hillforts. They are the beginning of our urban society.

Quite a lot bigger and much more interesting to visit than expected from an archeological site. The informational signs were very informative and it was quite easy to figure out from the rocks what they referred to. The place presents a good view of the sea as well, always a plus.

Romantic historial place with beautiful sunset and view to Rovinj, kind of like Croatian stonehenge, special beauty in february when you can catch the sun setting through the stone gate (entrance), amazing green field with stone walls kissing the blueness of sky...

Beautiful for a short stop to soak up some ancient history

Bronze age settlement. Discovered in 1950s and extensively explored.

Nur zu erreichen über einen Schotterweg, aber einer meiner liebsten Plätze in Istrien. Wenig Menschen, absolute Ruhe, Blick auf die Adria, usw.! Nutze diesen Ort gerne um Ruhe und Kraft zu tanken.

Beeindruckend gut erhaltene Wehranlage aus der Bronzezeit, ab 2.100 v. C. bis 1.100 v. C. besiedeltes und befestigtes Hochplateau mit schöner Rundumsicht. Zentraler Grund für die Anlage war offensichtlich die 50 m tiefe Doline am Rand der Anlage, die leider nicht weiter erkundet werden kann. Trotzdem sehr lohnend, ausreichend auch auf deutsch, in 4 Sprachen, beschildert. Kein Eintritt, frei ganztägig zugänglich, Zufahrt bis zur Anlage möglich.

Wir haben eine schöne Wanderung gemacht und die Ruinenstadt als Ziel genommen. Von dem Dorf stehen allerdings nur noch die Grundmauern. Trotzdem haben wir vieles entdeckt und neues dazugelernt. Etwa dass das Gebiet zum Teil unterhöhlt ist. Ein Geocache war auch noch zu finden. Alles perfekt für meinen Geschmack 👍🙋‍♂
