Book online and get there early!!!

My husband and I booked tickets online prior to our visit which I would absolutely recommend to anyone visiting, especially if you're planning to visit on a specific day as we were. During the summer this place gets very busy with coach tours of people. I would recommend staying nearby if possible, then getting up early to enter as early as possible before the masses arrive. We arrived at 7am and there were still a fair few people arriving at this time. However, we were able to take pictures of one another without trying to dodge other people. We walked the whole 21km around the lower and upper lakes, but there are buses and boats which will take you around the lake so you do not have to walk it all as we did. We started with the lower lakes and then walked around the upper lakes. Both are stunning, but we preferred the upper lakes, so if you only have limited time and can't do both, I'd recommend the upper lakes. There are a few places in the park where you can get food and drink but we packed up a picnic and found a quiet spot to enjoy our lunch. On our return to the car we had to retrace some of our steps to the lower lakes. By the afternoon we were shuffling along the boardwalks with other people; boardwalks which were practically empty at 7am! Getting there early is key to really enjoying this place. It's stunning, would absolutely recommend a visit.

Very beautiful. Not too busy in March!

This place is pretty amazing! Due to limited buses from Zagreb, we travelled 2.5 hours there and 2.5 hours back for 4 hours at the park! At first we questioned if this was going to be worth it, but it so was! We did route B which took us about 2.5 hours and involved walking, a boat and a bus to explore the park. We took a packed lunch but there was spots to stop for a very scenic drink or bite to eat at several points. There are longer routes you can do but I think only in summer when other parts of the park are open. The walkways are done so well and you really feel part of nature! March was a good month to go as not too busy, not too hot but it didn’t rain and entry is cheaper (€10 for an adult)! I can imagine the lakes and waterfalls look even more stunning in the bright sunshine but anytime of year, I think Plitvice is worth a visit!

Stunning park!

I visited Plitvice Lakes twice on my trip to Croatia: I took one day seeing the lower lakes and another day seeing the upper lakes. The whole place was stunning; the photos do not do justice to how beautiful this place is. The water is even more blue than a photograph can capture! The park was very clean and well maintained, with great facilities and friendly, helpful staff. I found the cost of entering the park very reasonable considering what a unique environment this is. It's definitely a place to add to your bucket list! I visited once in good weather and the park was very busy; a little unnerving when there are so many people on the boardwalks and no railings, but this can be avoided if you arrive early (8-9am). The second time I visited it was raining and the park was virtually empty, so if you'd prefer a quieter experience, pack your waterproofs and head on a rainy day. The walk itself it quite easy, there are a few steps in places, and the boards can become slippery when wet, but all routes are suitable for someone with a good fitness level. There are also lots of places to sit down and rest.
