Xelapan Los Altos

Xelapan, The best bread in all Guatemala. I love Xelapan, the smell of fresh bread, cookies, cheese cake, and anything you can think of you can find at Xelapan. Although quite expensive Xelapan brings out the best of Guatemalan bread. I suggest to drink hot chocolate for it to be a great experience. You can't go wrong when buying bread at Xelapan.

I cannot review them as a bakery per se, but as a place to order a thick black bean soup and heavenly loose-leaf lemongrass and cardamom tea pot, i certainly can.
The most notable thing about this location (i think it's a local chain) is how quiet it is in the back seating areas; that despite the entrance being a wide open doorway facing the city's central plaza, and despite the biggest festival of the year coinciding with my visit, i could actually hold conversation at a comfortable quiet level while dining. And did i mention the tea?!
This place gives Panera a run for its money.
Note that they didn't have WiFi for the use of patrons. I don't blame them: it's not easy to find such a nice place to sit indoors yet so close to the mayhem of a market or concert on the plaza. Offering free WiFi might inundate them with warm bodies not interested in buying food or drinks.
