Loved it. It is Step an away from the Parque Central; very convenient. Wanted a simple evening snack & ordered the ham & cheese fondue (Guatemalan style) with an extra order of warm tortillas. The total with a bottle of water was approximately $10 (with tip). Not cheap but it’s a nice restaurant in a great location. Think of quesadillas with just ham & cheese. The quality was excellent as was the service (waitresses in typical Guatemalan dress) & the atmosphere. I asked for a table by the street to watch people pass. The inside seating was nice as well.

We ate in La Fonda a couple of times during our stay in Antigua. We were looking for typical Guatemalan dishes and the food was extremely delicious. The restaurant has an open kitchen concept where you see the cooks working with so much passion. The waitresses are very attentive, the prices are reasonable and in general our overall experience was very positive. If you are looking for typical Guatemalan food, look no further.
Highly recommended

We really enjoyed this place for lunch. We had walked by a few times as it is just north of the main square in Antigua and always seemed busy and had a great atmosphere. We stopped in for a quick lunch, great authentic Guatemalan food. Larger than it looks from the street. Would recommend enjoying a meal here.

This place was recommended by a Guatemalan friend of a friend. I was hesitant after seeing recent reviews were not great. However, my wife and I both greatly enjoyed the food and pleasant and fast service here. Atmosphere is also excellent given the colonial architecture.

Very nice place to eat local food, one only thing is a bit too expensive but I do understand that is maybe for the location!
But well for one experience was worthy, the plates we had we ate them all!

Vegetarian traditional food is sold here and practically no where else. We were six and it was such a pleasure to share all the items from the veg menu. It’s very difficult to flavour all the different Guatemalan dishes, like pepian, if you don’t eat meat so I’m very grateful they give those options here. The atmosphere was busy for lunch but it was worth the wait and the cost. Our plates ranged from Q48-59

Incredible food, amazingly fresh and local cuisine. Best Guatemala food we had while in Antigua! Such kind workers, and delicious all around! Over two different meals here, we tried guacamole with chips (looked like a flower), fresh fish fried and delivered on its own fish dish 🐠🍽 , as well as vegetarian entrees and fresh the National chicken dish. House-made tortillas, you see them frying when you enter. Even piña colada to drink. So yummy and tons of options, you’ll enjoy it!

Best place for an amazing Guatemalan dinner near the arches and city center. Great vibe, AMAZINGLY delicious food, and prices were very reasonable.

Must try the stuffed peppers. Best tomato sauce ever. Chile wine was delicious and very well priced

We were looking for some Guatemalan cuisine (platos típicos) and found that this restaurant had that on their menu. The atmosphere and service get 5 stars. The food gets a 4 because it was missing some salt compared to other platos típicos around the area. I'm not usually a picky eater but the missing seasoning really did have an impact on how much I enjoyed the Chiles Rellenos plate. Overall, the food was good and gets a 4. I would come back and give it a second chance!

The variety in food was really great. We tried various plates in our party of 5. The handmade tortillas, the tamalitos de chipilin, etc. were all delicious and part of the Guatemalan cuisine experience. The hot chocolate is one you MUST try!

While it's a 5 star experience, the waitress we had, the older woman, was not a good waitress and made it a 4 star one, but we'll still rate it 5, imagining that she wasn't present.

The waitress kept rushing us, making comments as if we need to hurry, and she had only been with us for a few seconds! We sat down with the menus, then she returned 2 minutes later and wanted us to choose something. Our questions bothered her a little bit as we tried to understand the menu, and then said she'll be back. Okay, great. She returned 3 minutes later with this comment "and now you're ready or not?" - Jeez.. Way to sour the mood. Wife and I hadn't been out in a while alone without the kids and we get a grumpy, impatient waitress. And, it was our anniversary. Come to think of it, lots of older waitresses in Guatemala behave like that, and keep looking elsewhere like they need to go somewhere and attend others.

Then, at the end when we're paying with the machine, she makes another impatient comment.
If she doesn't like her job, let her quit.

Apart from that experience, the food was superb. I ordered the lamb stew (estofado de cordero), 125 GTQ, and it was spectacular. Sauce, flavor, lamb, all delicious. Funny enough, I asked the waitress if she recommended that dish and she said not so much because she doesn't like the flavor of lamb. I thought it was going to be bad but good thing I did not listen to her. The lamb flavor is exactly as it should be.

This happens often in Guatemala by the way, people have a different taste here and don't always know what is tasty since they eat simple foods packed with carbs and are used to low quality ingredients. I keep getting recommended something and it turns out bad, so whenever a waiter/waitress recommends or doesn't recommend, do the opposite lol.

My wife, who is Guatemalan, took the gallo en chicha de frutas (plato del dia), 90 GTQ, and again the lady impatiently answered her when my wife wondered if it had the same ingredients as another similar meal but yet didn't note them down in the ingredient list (she wanted the other first). The answer was supposedly yes, they both have the same even if one of them doesn't note them down (didn't taste like it did though) but the lady kept saying "yes yes, it does, yes don't worry" and we only asked it twice just to confirm. If only I could tell you the number of times we have received misinformation in Guatemala. We had to confirm.. Who knows if it was true. Didn't taste like it. Either way, wife loved the meal.

Tortillas weren't the best, unfortunately. They should improve that, considering the quality of the restaurant. But, the corn-based side dish, tamalito de chipilin, that accompanied the main dish was great. It had black beans and I think some cocoa paste. I'm not usually a fan of those but this one yes. My wife had the tamalito de chipilin but with sweet pepper. Didn't taste as good as mine :D.

Horchata drink was the best we've had.

Music was good and its volume was at the correct level compared to nearly all restaurants in the country who love to blast music and make us deaf.

It's a nice place though, peaceful, and well maintained.

Recommended, just as long as you don't get the impatient older waitress (ask for someone else).

Lunch was delicious. Multiple options on the menu with traditional Guatemalan dishes. I ordered Frijoles Blancos con costilla. I recommend it, very flavorful. Price is on the higher end but worth it. Excellent service as well.

Decent Guatemalan cuisine. As a fellow tourist, I encourage you to try this restaurant or similar. Guatemalan is one cuisine you likely won't have access to when you back home

The most delicious food we’ve had in all of Guatemala so far! Homemade tortillas can’t be beat! Pepián and the special gallo en chicha were spectacular. Vegetarian options are available. Attentive service and the building is gorgeous!

Great food just a bit pricey. The tamales I had here were a great introduction to Guatemala as the days after I didn’t enjoy the food as much.
