We walked in because we were captivated by the sight of all the young ladies making fresh tortillas. We decided to stick around for breakfast and this was a very wise choice indeed! There are many traditional options for a hearty Guatemalan breakfast and everything was made fresh and delicious! The coffee was excellent as well, strong but smooth! Do not miss this place if you are passing through Antigua!

Authentic Guatemalan tortillas, black and yellow corn and cilantro tortillas made by hand. Lovely, simple, delicious food, a fun and charming space. Fresh cilantro from the window garden as shown in my photo. Super nice staff.

A colorful restaurant near good souvenir shops in Antigua, we really enjoyed our meal at El Comalote. We loved watching the staff make fresh tortillas (which were delicious with the hilachas and the tortillas con lomito we ordered). I loved the chinchivir drink, an ice-cold concoction of lime (or lemon?) and spices and served in a dried gourd - my first time trying this, I learned it was popular in the Lenten season in Guatemala. We also took some chocolate-coconut tostadas to go for snacking, and they were great. Prices were slightly higher than local restaurants but not anything out of the ordinary for a tourist area, especially given the high quality of food and service.

A hidden gem. One of the rare dining experiences where it tastes like you are eating at grandma's house and not a restaurant. Other reviews may knock the price or value, but alot of work is worth it. Excellent flavor profiles on multiple dishes. Chorizo garnachitas pictured.

I order the Tortillas con Lomito. Enough for a meal with fresh tortillas and a local bee “La Roja beer”
Worth the visit. Great friendly service

You ever go to a restaurant with friends and spend the entire time talking about how amazing the food is? This is that place. The service and atmosphere are top notch. The food is beyond incredible and you can truly taste the love that was put into each dish. Get the Garanchitas, the smoked chorizo in it is amazing. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu.

10/10. Food is super delicious (ended up eating here a few times!) - their tacos are made in house & probably best we tried in Antigua, & would highly recommend the 'tacos vegetarianos' for anyone, so good!!
The vibe also is awesome - all the chairs & tables are painted with colour and the music is good. Highly recommend eating here 👌

Wow, we were blown away at how delicious the food here was. The atmosphere is very welcoming and the architecture is very beautiful, reminiscent of Arab or North Africa.. the food tastes home cooked straight from Grandma's heart, so full of love. Delicate but intentional. If I were in Antigua longer, I would come for another visit. This is a must try!

Authentic Guatemalan Cuisine at Its Finest!

Honestly, one of the best pepians I've ever had! The food here is incredibly delicious and truly captures the essence of traditional Guatemalan cuisine. If you're looking for homemade, flavorful dishes, this place is an absolute must-visit.

I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone craving authentic and tasty Guatemalan food. You won't be disappointed!

Everything here was so good. The pupusas are flavorful, the horchata was amazing, and the price was great. If the other reviews didn’t convince you I don’t know what will

El Comalote was one of (if not the) best meal during my time in Guatemala. All of the dishes/drinks we had tasted incredible. The fresh-made tortillas also had the perfect flavor and texture.

The building is beautifully decorated and the staff are attentive. The restaurant is located a short walk from the center of Antigua, but it is definitely worth the trip!

If I could only go one place in Antigua it would be here. The best food in Antigua by far and a great caring staff. The tortillas are first rate and the tacos quite good. But I think what really elevates the space is the attentive staff and the ambiance of the place which is bright and clean. There’s a lot of average places in the city which overly cater to tourists; Comalote has something for everyone while remaining authentic. Something that I loved was the salsa picante and the veg tacos have flor de Jamaica (hibiscus) in the sautéed veggies which is a smart and flavorful touch.

My one regret is not coming early enough for the tamales!

Muchas gracias El comalote para los almuerzos mejores de Antigua!

The most incredible local authentic breakfast in Antigua! The tortillas were the star of the meal and made from corn to table in house. A must go!

Definitely a jewel! The food and service were amazing, I had the Chapin Galan; it's a typical Guatemalan breakfast. I will definitely come back to "El Comalote" next time I am visiting Guatemala.

Bro what?!? This place is delicious and hands down the best meal we’ve had in Guatemala. We got tortillas con Lomito, tortilla y queso, and the cazuela de pepían. All of it was top notch. Friendly staff. Great service and food. Riquísimo. I would recommend this spot to anyone rolling through Antigua.

I am surprised this place is not MORE popular. Such a welcoming and hospitable environment with food that tastes homemade and leaves you satisfied. If you go, try any of their fresh juices as well!
