Had a really amazing time at the hostel, really nice grounds but more importantly, really special people that make it feel like one big family. Special mention to Ciarán and Theo who were always there to give a helping hand and enhance the experience. Best football pitch in the world next to the hostel as well. Would definitely recommend!

La Iguana Perdida is an absolutely amazing hostel. As a solo traveler, the family dinners and other social events were perfect for meeting people (really great food!). They have a sauna in the garden which we really enjoyed too.
Great crowd working and staying there, after two days it really feels like you know everyone. Would recommend to anyone.

Loved it here. Santa Cruz is much more laid back than some of the other pueblas, and La Iguana is the perfect setting to enjoy the lake. The views are incredible, the staff super friendly, and my room was very clean and quiet. They offer Yoga in the morning, as well as meals (including a communal dinner, which is great to meet other travelers.

This is a great hostel on the north side of the lake. It's quiet, away from the party scenes, and has a relaxed atmosphere. I stayed in two private rooms here, Luna and Corona, and they were both excellent with awesome beds and hot water with good pressure. These nights were the best sleep that I've had in a while. There is a group dinner every night for a reasonable price, and the food is delicious. Happy hour drinks are cheap. This is a good launch point to explore the other towns around the lake.

This hostel would do well to improve their Internet, e.g. buy Starlink.

Had an absolutely wonderful stay at the iguana, just kept on extending my stay. Rooms were great and it had a wonderful vibe. The staff were all wonderful, I would like to make a special mention to just a few: Tilly, Theo (Ratcliffe), jago, Alex, ciaran, radek, noémie, Neus, bird, Connie, chloe, anna, jérémie and of course Dave and deedle. I’ll be back again thanks everyone!

Really like the hostel, the food is delicious and plenty, the facilities are very nice such as a beautiful terrace and views onto the lake. There are also activities offered by the hostel.

Only few pointers:
The yoga session was an overpriced stretching class and the check out process took quite long and seemed disorganised.

Otherwise I can definitely recommend the place though be aware there are not many other options regarding going out or food as the town is uphill and super quiet anyways.

Great place, great theme nights and great workouts in the morning with Ciarán and Jeremie and also great staff and a wonderful place to hang out if you live in Santa Cruz for nine weeks or longer or shorter!

I loved my time at this hostel so much! My private room was so beautiful and luxurious, the water truly was piping hot. Breakfast was delicious and the views are insane. If you are looking to paddle board, kayak, etc. the water is very clear here so it is definitely the place to be- I went paddle boarding in San Pedro and would not do that again compared to what you get in Santa Cruz.

However, I have to say, the best part about staying here was the staff! I got really sick during my stay (just something I picked up on my journey) and Trina, Argo, and Sophia were ON IT. They brought me food, gatorade, and even a new toothbrush which made me feel sooo much better especially since I was travelling solo. Thank you so much! It was also great just to hang out with this team as they are very friendly and social. I hope to come back one day <3

I have no complaints about this hostel. The breakfast and lunch menu was reasonably priced. I stayed in the rooftop private room and it was so gorgeous. Staff and volunteers were really helpful and friendly. Would definitely stay here again.

Honestly, I think I have no complaints about this hostel. I stayed in a luxury private room with a view of the volcanoes across the lake. It was absolutely lovely. My only complaint might be that the room keys are a little bulky, but that also means you are less inclined to loose them.
Santa Cruz is the perfect location for being on the lake. I found the Iguana to be the perfect mix of social and fun, but also allows room for solo travelers to find some quite time too. I stayed five days and had family dinner every night. The food is outstanding. I found breakfast to also be a great value. The docks are busy, so you'll hear noise from that, but to me that is part of the fun of being on the lake.
The only thing to be aware of is that wifi is only available in the common area, not in the rooms or restaurant. If you go to bed early (like I do) you might hear noise from the restaurant and bar, but it wasn't loud enough to prevent me from drifting to sleep. I am so happy I stayed here. It was perfect and I loved every minute of it.

We didn't stay here but joined for the bbq family dinner.

Definitely one of the better meals we've had in Guatemala.

Loved this hostel. Generally good vibe from both guests and volunteers, plus the music in the evening was so good and fitting. The room and bathrooms were clean. The breakfast and lunch options are pretty good. For dinner they have a three course buffet (starter and dessert are small but well delicious) that was always really tasty and generally really fun as you can sit in large tables and meet other guests. Their terraces are really nice, with both sun and shadow options. Recommended.

Great vibe, family dinners are fab for making friends. Volunteers were amazing (let us extend and converted a private room to a dorm price for us as a group). Food good as well although you will build up a tab!

I’ve worked in hostels around the world and have stayed in many. This hostel is one of my absolute favorites. If you’re booking try to stay on a Saturday so you can enjoy the costume party (don’t worry they have plenty of outfits for you to borrow). When choosing a hostel it’s important to find one that is easy to make friends in, that’s the point right? I found it so easy to meet people here. I made so many amazing friends it was hard to leave. The staff are excellent and really love working there. Shout out to Ali, Zack, Connor, and Neil for being the BEST. The owners are also the coolest people. You can tell they love their hostel. Book the hostel, youll love it!!

My favourite hostel experience (ever). Really lovely staff and volunteers, family dinners are a must and the talent show was a highlight of our trip. This place is full of characters and history, couldn't recommend it more.
