San Marcos is already a lakeside paradise and the gardens and grounds of Lush take it up a notch. The hotel is so unique and unlike anything I’ve experienced before, you truly must come and see for yourself.

The hotel is a short walk from the ferry and offers an amazing and fresh free breakfast with your stay. (The chia pancakes were unreal)

They’ve truly made a lot of effort to be eco conscious without sacrificing any vibe or amenities you’d expect from a more commercial hotel.

Our room was massive (the pictures did not do it justice) and had the most amazing views of the lake. Walking up to the sounds of birds chirping and roosters crowing along with soft jazz music playing in the restaurant below is truly divine.

I would 100% come back for another stay.

This hotel and restaurant is Guatemalan family owned and operated. The flora and fauna are breathtaking. Eco-friendly practices, locally sourced foods. Fine teas, coffee, and rooms. We were lucky they were hosting a world class music event with a touring Indigenous band performing on an outside stage with excellent sound and musicianship. Will definitely be back!

Worth the hype! Really enjoyed our room and the ambiance of the hotel. Staff was very friendly, and the food was amazing— but expect to pay prices way too expensive for Guatemala. I enjoyed my free breakfast but as good as it was, didn’t find it worth it to eat at the restaurant more than once or twice outside of that.

This beautiful and cozy hotel lives up to its name, located on the exuberant landscaped grounds of San Marcos La Laguna. The location itself is stunning and the hotel bedrooms are gracefully decorated (in a minimalist way), calm and extremely comfortable. The welcome from Jeanette and her staff makes the stay even more pleasant, surely a place to spend a few days at ease on Lake Atitlán!

Beautiful hotel embedded into nature, focused on sustainability with a mainly vegan restaurant and many little details. Perfect to calm down for a few days or explore the lake, gorgeous view over the lake from all rooms. Yes there are animals, but they got a WhatsApp number you can message anytime and they come by immedatiely to take them outside - what else could you wish for!

Had a very pleasant stay at Lush. The room (sonrisa) was clean and the view was great! The usual bugs didn’t bother us. We knew what we were booking. If you want to really get away safely this is the place to be.
The tomato soup was delicious also!

The Lush is not only super clean (if you're scared of bugs, don't travel / or cure your neurosis), but the veg FOOD IS FANTASTIC.
I've lived in Guatemala for 5 years, FIRST intelligent, high quality food I ate in this country!

The whole staff is beautiful and of service. Only bug: hot showers not always working well.

My second stay: the room I want is not available, but the manager and the receptionist did everything they could to accommodate me with a room while the one a want frees up.

Even if no private bathroom in this room - usually a BIG no no for me - the space feels so great, I'll happily spend 2 nights here.

In the bed: 3 different sizes of pillows so I can finally sleep well on a smaller one. Nice duvet with clean cover, matress covers under, sheets, flowers, candle, calm ambiance music (NOT A HIPPY or trance place), great for mature gen X traveling professionals.

it is SO clean and creative! Beautiful garden, center of town, honest people doing a great job at every level... I am super happy, thanks to the whole team, you guys ROCK!

Beautiful location, kind staff, delicious food in the cafe. In response to the most recent review: Yes, there was a friendly flat spider in my room, but they are harmless and eat other critters. The ants came out outside of my room after a rainstorm, but quickly went away. This is the jungle, after all: There are two adorable hummingbirds that feed off of the glorious flowers. My Luz room reservation included two delicious vegan breakfasts. I highly recommend the Tiox bowl. Thank you!!

We started going to Lush only to eat (the food is INCREDIBLE) and at some point we just had to move there!
It might be more expensive than most places at the lake but it’s 100% worth it.
It’s super clean and you get these fruit plates every morning that make your heart sing.
The staff are so helpful and friendly and the owners are always present and keen on making sure you’re comfortable beyond your stay at their hotel.
Deborah at the restaurant is the sweetest lady.
I will let the photos speak for the place and we’ll definitely be back!

Unique rooms with fantastic views for an "upscale rustic" stay.

My only warning is scorpions ... no need to be scared of them, just watchful and wise. Wear your shoes. :-) The hotel is built into the landscape and rock, so the natural habitat overlaps.

One semi-local friend gave me a scorpion tip: use your hair dryer on bedding before you hop in. Use the hottest/highest setting and blow air between the sheets and under pillows. They truly are scared of you and WANT to get away if you give them the chance.

This sweet hotel is in the heart of San Marcos La Laguna, with restaurants nearby. It is close to the water, but it has more of a jungle feel than a water feel. The grounds are amazingly beautiful with many tranquil places to sit and enjoy the beautiful weather. Our room was very light, open and spacious (9 Monkey was our room). The bathroom was huge and had windows that opened so you could see into the room and out the to garden. And, it had a bathtub, so bring soaking oils. The breakfast was simple but the fresh bread is so good, that just that and fruit is all you need, although they provide hard-boiled eggs. They also give you a yummy pineapple drink with a banana muffin. It was just perfect. We can't wait to book a trip there next year. The town is so tranquil that it invites you to return. Do take advantage of all the wonderful massages and healing services offered there. You won't regret a minute of it.

Views and great food!

Our room was Mirador. It has a great view of the lake and it’s perfect for a calm and romantic getaway. The private terrace is great for room service. The room features an outdoor shower that we loved. The amenities inside the room could be a little better but we enjoyed our overall stay.

-Very good location
-Good wifi
-Great service

The breakfast is amazing:
Beautifully plated, nourishing ingredients. It’s all vegan, nutritious and tasty. We ordered the avo toast, pancakes, tiox bowl and golden milk.

It is a lovely retreat on the lake surrounded by nature with great views of the lake and volcano. Then entire menu is vegan and so delicious. It's just a short walk from the doc although I don't know what the parking situation is since it's a far walk off the paved road. It makes a perfect place to relax & be romantic.

Everywhere you point your camera is fantastic. I think it would be great to offer or suggest a photographer for photoshoots on the property (another lodging in he area offers it) and this location is a much more beautiful & just lush!

I chose the cheapest room on the property (luz) it didn't have lake views but was still elegant. There are other public places where you can find views of the lake.

No doubt that it’s one of the best hotels I’ve ever been to. The owners are very friendly and do everything to make your stay pleasant, The rooms are very comfy and the communal areas are unique and feature exotic plants and an eco friendly design. I especially loved the restaurant, which serves local dishes using organic products. While I was there it was even vegan 😍 I’ll definitely stay there again on my next visit to Guatemala! ❤

We stayed for four nights. This place is so unique.... we actually started calling it the little hobbit Village. Every room is different every view is different. . It is just such a great find. The staff are all excellent. The breakfasts were fantastic. And they went out of their way to accommodate us leaving early on our departure day. We booked a sunrise hike with them. All the details were taken care of. They booked our boat to meet our van. Overall, it was pretty darn good ....and, they are near 2 really good restaurants. And the National Park Which gives you access to the water? What's not to like. ? Highly recommend staying there!

The hotel is close to the lake and the national reserve. Room was welcoming. We did not eat at the restaurant, was very expensive. If you book directly from the site it is supposed to be included..

Our four night stay at lush was fantastic in every way. My husband and I were celebrating our honeymoon in the Pescado suite which is one of the only villas that has an incredible outdoor kitchen. We spent so much time up there taking in the breathtaking views of Lago Atitlán while cooking/eating dinner, watching a movies on our iPad, or playing games. What a special place on earth that was. I hope whoever is deciding whether or not to book keeps in mind that the prior reviews mentioning bugs came from people who most likely didn’t realize the location of Lush. It’s located on a nature preserve. Bugs exist but we did not see one in our room other than a very friendly caterpillar. I promise you the beauty and comfort of this place is outstanding. The location is perfect as it’s located steps from a private dock with lanchas that will take you to any little town along the lake. We chose private (15q each) one way. Lush is also located close to one of the cleanest areas of the lake to swim in. It’s located inside the cerro tzankujil (the nature preserve I mentioned before) and it’s even closer to Lush than the boat docks! Finally, I want to thank Debbie, one of the hostesses and managers of the restaurant located at Lush. She was an absolute angel and her personality fits in so perfectly with the energy of the place. Every single plate and beverage we tried from her recommendations were beyond delicious. My favorites were the “old school” and the Caesar salad. The sun milk made from their pepitas was also outstanding. So grateful to have found this special gem in San Marcos La Laguna!

Lush is a quaint little hotel that offers private rooms surrounded by beautiful scenic gardens on the property. The staff is very friendly, and upon showing up 3 hours early for check in, they let us keep our bags in a secure room while we explored the town. The room was very clean and tidy, and the sheets were really really comfortable!

The included breakfast buffet was very simple, but filling. Eggs, toast, jam, lots of fruits, and tea. After checkout, the staff again let us keep our bags there so we could finish exploring the very nearby San Marcos nature reserve before we left.

Overall a great hotel with friendly atmosphere and cute cabin style rooms that make you feel at home.
