San Juan del Obispo is for most travelers a never found village to visit. Sadly only a short 20 minute drive from Antigua or a walk you are missing out on history and the best views from the mountains looking down on Antigua.

Hop on a van in the Market in Antigua and you will find an interesting village. The Plaza features a stunning church with much of the history of the Bishops of Guatemala.

Not much to do, as church is closed most of the time. Has great views of Antigua and the volcanoes. Come in on November for the Níspero (loquat) festival.

Village in Guatemala

San Juan del Obispo is a small village in Guatemala. It is located in the department of Sacatepéquez, close to the departmental capital, Antigua Guatemala. The village is famous for holding one of the first Catholic churches in Guatemala. Francisco Marroquín, the first bishop of Guatemala, resided in San Juan del Obispo. The church was restored in 1948 by José Luis Álvarez. source
