I came to visit my family in Guatemala and my uncle suggested we come to Volcan Fuego. I hike very often in L.A. but I didn't know what I was getting myself into with this one. We started at 1am and finished until 1pm. It was VERY tiring but it was the most amazing hike I've ever done in my life.

Volcán de Fuego, stunning! Get ready though, the hike is no joke. They don’t tell you how steep the steps are. Worth it!!

Great experience, worth every step. It's not the easiest hike I've done, but we'll worth it

Incredible.
If you're sensitive to elevation, try and come a day or two early. Wife and I spent a week in Antigua so we were pretty much acclimated to it. A few friends were struggling that had shown up that day.

Amazing experience. Long hike, not the easiest for everyone to do. Be prepared, ask for help. Don't be a tough guy, it's a tough hike. But it's worth it. Beautiful views and powerful volcano

Truly an amazing, once in a lifetime experience. I suggest arriving in Antigua a day or two before to acclimate to the higher elevation. I also recommend bringing hand warmers and more layers than you think you need because it gets REAL COLD up there. We attempted to summit Acatenango around 4 am but the conditions were unfortunately too cloudy.

I do think the local government should do something about the trash situation. The amount of litter and toilet paper strewn about took away from the overall experience. Educating visitors on Leave No Trace principles and perhaps increasing the entrance fee in an effort to clean up the area could possibly help preserve the area for generations to come.

Volcán de Fuego, 🌋 a majestic active stratovolcano in Guatemala, stands at an impressive altitude of 3,763 meters. Known for its regular volcanic activity, it offers a unique spectacle of nature's power. The volcano has a rich history of eruptions, the most significant being in 1974 and 2018. Despite its volatility, it attracts adventurous tourists for guided hikes and breathtaking views. Tours are well-organized, providing safe, yet thrilling experiences. Interestingly, Fuego is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire and is conjoined with Acatenango, another volcano. This dramatic landscape captivates visitors with its constant smoke plumes and occasional lava flows, making it a must-visit for those seeking a blend of danger and beauty.

Volcan de Fuego is my most favourite volcano. Been planning this hike for nearly two years and finally made it happen. It’s definitely a once in a lifetime experience and anyone planning to do this- you have to do it! It’s not an easy challenge but not impossible either. I promise you, one you get to the top at 13000ft, you’re gonna be so proud of yourself. Go on, do it!

We were amazed at how active this volcano is! Several times a day it emits ash and smoke and at night you can occasionally see lava spew out. It is very humbling to witness.

It was one of the best experiences to hike the Acatenango! Go to the summit at 4:30 pm for the sunrise - the effort really worth it!

Beautiful hike and a fantastic experience to watch Fuego so close. But what is awful, is all the trash that is laying around the campsite and at the basecamp at the mountain saddle between Acatenango and Fuego. It's terrible, all the empty plastic and glass bottles and all the other trash that is laying around.

If you do this hike make sure to take all your trash back down. Even if you're with a tour operator you should still make sure that everything goes back down.

I think the Park office should charge a higher entrance fee and with that money they could hire more workers to ensure that this beautiful place stays clean and nice. We want to keep this amazing and unique place for future generations as well. It's not just about making as much money as possible and not caring about the future!

Most unbelievable experience of my life. Highly recommend doing the extra trek to get closer to the eruptions. The rush you get from being so close to the action is unlike anything else you will ever experience. The feeling of the ground shake beneath your feet, the shock wave hit your chest, the exploding sound and lava flying into the night sky, can’t even describe how cool it was. We used Soy Tours and loved it. Very cold at the top, I am one who runs warm and was freezing even with appropriate clothing.

Beautiful experience, but the hike up there is though and really exhausting.

A beautiful and deadly force of nature. A once in a lifetime must see in Guatemala. The hike is 5 hours to basecamp (Roughly 10km with 1.3km altitude change)

Breathtaking. Words can’t convey how humbling and awestruck it feels to sit and watch an active volcano spew lava barely a kilometre or two from where you’re sitting. It’s a hard hike but worth the effort
