This experiential location provides insight as one visits the site of the river where last baths were provided to Africans post their seven months trudges from the interior to coastal Africa during slavery in Ghana.

Great starting point if you plan to visit the Slave Castles in Cape Coast. The kids from the USA and the Abeadze Kyeakor Village enjoyed hearing the history of the Last Bath.

I really enjoyed learning about this site and the significance of rivers in our history. You will be walking barefoot to the river to reconnect with the earth of your ancestors, and to enter the river.
There are cleansing ceremonies you can participte in, or have a guide give you history. It's wild when you drive to Elmina after that they walked people that distance for sale. Some further because they walked in chain gangs from other countries.
Make sure this part is included in your castle tour, it's significant.

Spiritual Healing Waters of the Assin Manso Slave River
Powerful and emotional moments today at the Assin Manso Slave River where our Mothers and Fathers took their last bath before trekking to the European-built slave dungeons. “This river is the blood of my blood” we chanted while washing our hands and faces with the spiritual strength and blessings from our African Ancestors. The vicarious remembrance of the sacrifices our people endured to ascertain that we live on with the courage of lions, strength of elephants, and wisdom of eagles will live on eternally within my mind and soul. At the Assin Monso Slave River our ancestors are giving us the power to manifest healing within to distribute peace and blessings to all. Please make sure to pay homage when you visit Ghana. One Love!

The guide makes the spot. He does an excellent job relating the history of the site, giving insight into what happened, and the background. He also gives reading suggestions for additional information if you are interested. We stopped there before heading to Elimina. It adds to the visit there.

The Journey Assin Manso Slave River Site of the Last Bath was an awesome experience that I will always remember and cherish

It's a very significant place when it come to the journey of how Africans dispersed to the 'new world'. The slaves journeyed from northern Ghana through the forest zones all by foot to the Cape Coast castle. Assin Manso is the place they were made to take they last bath before heading towards Cape Coast.

My thoughts will be an excerpt of the poem I wrote at this place😭:
if only the land could speak, scream.
...if only the trees would whisper, instruct.
...if only the rivers would wail, plead.
Our ears’ paths cannot contain
the thumping saunters of the stories untold,
of pains unfelt,
of hands unheld,
as the angry waters swallowed them whole; serenity found.
Standing on the land many souls perished, assorted skulls unearthed.
Bending on the soils of muffled laments
and shackled tears
and hope lost in the scorns of whips
and freedom exchanged
at the feet of prisoned sighs...

This is a the best way to start a tour of the slave dungeons in the central region, it's briefs you of the journey before the slaves were taken out of Africa... I'd recommend visiting here first whenever you have to visit the Cape Coast and Elmina Castles...

A memorable and solemn place to connect and appreciate the sufferings, sacrifices and carnage of the slave trade. True emancipation.

The guide does an excellent work sharing and giving insight into the background, what happened, and how it relates to us now. A place of great and rich history connecting us to our ancestors. I walked to the river barefooted and entered the river to bless and thank God for the souls of my ancestors. I learnt that someone fought my freedom, and I must do the same for the unborn generation...

I learnt a lot from here about the trans Atlantic slave trade which took back 500 years ago and to all the Africa diasporas I recommend each and everyone to come back to their various roots to experience the circumstances surrounding the evil trade in slaves as you visit the Assin Manso Slave River site and the Cape Coast Castle. Learn more about the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade through slave routes and the site where they had their last bath, held as captive in the dungeons and finally "shipped" to a world unknown. See the the tombs of two slaves returned from USA and Jamaica whose return tagged "the door of no return" as "the door of return".

Is a place where people from the diaspora can connect to their roots. It's very overwhelming for those trying to connect their roots.

Assin Manso is one of the center of slave market, serval punishment and death of our ancestors happened there, specially the moment after taking our ancestors first of last bath to be sold to trade masters, if the unfortunate happens and some of the slaves are not selected, they are killed a live and dump in a pit, where they took their last bath. May their souls rest in perfect peace.. Amen 🙏

A great experience to revisit the paths the slaves of old had to tread through and understand the toil they had to endure, as well as the beautiful nature and sights.
From the tour guide to the architecture, everything was educative, would highly recommend for anyone at all to visit.
