I LOVED Makola Market but it's an aquired tasted. Unlike the Accra Arts Center where you can find endless souvenirs and things to take home for friends and family Makola Market is a a working market for locals, like an our door grocery/general store for things like Ankara Fabric, Clothes, Shoes, Hair products, shea, food, beans, supplies, sewing services, African washing cloths etc. There are a FEW souvenir type shops here for fans etc.

The heartbeat of the city. Hot, colourful, bustling, smelly, energetic, crazy, crowded and endless. You can easily get lost in the maze of stalls selling everything from fresh vegetables, dried fish, snails, pots/pans, colourful cloth, jewelry, etc. People are friendly but it is really busy, especially on a Saturday afternoon. It was worth the visit and I bought some nice outfits for my wife.

Open markets are parts of Ghana’s economic makeup. Trading was done in a batter trade form, where goods and services were exchanged amongst persons for another which were at the same value as what they had.

As trading expanded and liberalized, people began trading their goods and services in exchange for cowries known as cedie. This later became our currency. All the regions in the country have a major market and many minor markets

The Makola Market an open-air market and is located in the capital of the country. From foodstuffs to jewelry, one is assured to find a stall to buy from. Traders are mostly women. The market was constructed in 1924 and to date serves as the hub of retail and wholesale of goods in the country.

For many indigenes of the city, shopping at an open-air market not only assure them of the best prices but also allows them to interact with traders. Be it tabletop or wholesalers. Get your bargaining skills on and let’s go to the Makola Market.

What a beautiful place. The sights and the sounds of Market life. The traffic jams. The Ghanian Culture
Colorful scenery, people alive and bringing their hustle. Just the liveliness of it all. My hope for these cultures springs eternal. .. GOD BLESS GHANA AND ALL GHANIANS

The battle ground of mother's in Accra. Grocery, material, fashion, furniture, stationery and more right in the heart of the city. Traffic around 8am morning and 4-5pm evening.

I think it's great for the fact that you may find just about all you're needing. Nobody is really anybody's business. The roads are tarred properly for you to look straight and mind your business. I beg have a budget before you embark, else you go spend all you get! 😂

I loved every sec in this market! It’s a perfect feel for the local culture and hardcore grittiness of Africa! The hustle is real but people are always happy I swear. This place will overwhelms your senses and it’s by far the best way I found to truly
experience the local culture. I visited this place a a tourist on a business trip.
NOTE: having traveled to different socio economic areas in the world this seemed like a cool place to me, however if you are not so let’s say culturally and emotionally as well as physically “strong” I would suggest you avoid this are as it’s very crowded and can overwhelm you.
NOTE 2: I would recommend you take a local guide or do what I did and ask your favorite taxi/uber driver to be your local guide for a day and you help recompense him/her for their service :)
Ghanaian folks are really friendly and would always help you from my experience. Although I would caution you not to be naive and always keep your wits about yourself!
I love that market experience and would do it again!

The market was okay, a bit smaller than I expected and also the people didn’t have much leeway to haggling but it was fun

Great time exploring at the Makola market, variety of products both perishable and non perishable. To locate the best price shops, you need to go by foot ( lots of walking ). It's a busy place by day time. Just be humble enough to ask for directions from the salespersons when searching for products. Thanks for reading I do appreciate it very much. Have fun
