School of Perfoming Arts

The Performing Arts Department at the University of Ghana in Legon is recognized for its vibrant academic atmosphere and global artistic influence. Offering diverse theoretical and practical courses in Dance, Music, and Theatre Arts, it caters to both local and international students. Actively engaged in research and creative projects, the department enhances Ghana's cultural scene.

Housed within the School of Performing Arts, the department collaborates with the renowned Abibigoromma Group, renowned for its exceptional productions. Together with the academic departments, they organize major productions involving staff and students, fostering a dynamic artistic and scholarly community.

The department provides undergraduate programs such as Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), as well as graduate programs like Master of Fine Arts (MFA) or Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) in Theatre Arts or Dance Studies. These programs offer a comprehensive blend of traditional and contemporary techniques, enriching students' understanding of the performing arts.

The School of Performing Arts, one of the schools under the College of Humanities, University of Ghana. The School comprses five units, namely the Department of Theatre Arts, the Department of Dance Studies and the Department of Music. The two other units are the Abibigoromma Group and the Efua Sutherland Drama Studio. The School offers courses of study both at the undergraduate and graduate levels. They are, respectively, BA/BFA (Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Fine Arts), MA/MFA (Master of Arts/Master of Fine Arts). The School also runs Ph.D. courses. (School's Website, 2018)
