Lycee Francais d'Accra was created in 1963 by the Association of Parents of Pupils to educate the children of French nationals of the French Embassy, ​​it opened to the children of staff of French-speaking embassies.

When it was created, housed in the premises of the cultural service of the embassy, ​​the French school, which was not yet called "Jacques Prévert," moved in 1975 to rented premises in Roman Ridge. This is where the enrollment of the French school goes from a hundred students to more than 270 students. She will stay there until June 2000.

It is at the beginning of September 2000 that the school will occupy the premises which are currently hers in East Legon. She then takes the name "French School Jacques Prévert". Since then, the numbers have only increased. The nursery and primary classes reach 343 students currently. The secondary classes from the 6th to the 12th graders are progressively taught directly and reach 240 students. And this evolution is not over.

Since the beginning of September 2014, it has been called "Lycée Français d'Accra Jacques Prévert"
