A place where Ghanaians take pride especially when celebrating Ghana’s Independence Day. A place to visit if you are driving by. It is right next to the iconic Black Star Gate.
Free to enter.
Independence Day celebrations can be elaborate and special here.

I have been here multiple times. Anyone visiting Ghana should come here and hear about its Independence. There is no charge to take pictures at the ground level of the Black Star Gate; however, if you choose to visit the upper level be ready to dash the attendants a small fee. I paid 10gh. Then prepare to climb 5 flights of stairs to the top. This lower level can be busy at times. My suggestion is if you arrive and people are taking pictures at the bottom level, you should go straight to the upper level to save time. A Ghanaian flag is stored on the upper level that you can utilize to take pictures.
Across the street you can visit Independence Arch/Square and a few monuments. Beware of the hawkers selling artwork, souvenirs, etc. If not interested, say "no" and move away quickly. If not they will continue to stress you unnecessarily.

Black Star Square (Formerly known as the Independence Square). This venue used to host all Independence Day parades back in the days and used to be packed until the event started circulating around the various regional capitals. It's still used for some national events (most especially Aglow International and concerts) . The 3-storey arch at the very edge has a top-notch Conference Facility but with restricted access.
Most of the seats in the stands are getting ripped off or stolen everyday by several perchers who stop by to rest from the scorching sun.
Anyway, you have to be careful around the stands because a few recalcitrant crooks are known to lurk under the stands and snatch phones and valuables when they get the opportunity.
All in all, there are proactive security officers around who respond swiftly when they receive any complaint, notable among them a well-built, well-spoken young man.....forgotten his name. Still worth being careful on the premises. There's no charge for accessing the facility as a tourist so don't let anyone deceive you and get away with a few of your cedis/whatever currency you carrying. Some vendors are around to provide water, coconut and snacks after your tour and picture-taking spree. Don't forget there's a Beach right behind the square.
NB: I'VE seen a few people being stopped from using the square as a driving practice field. It's strictly prohibited. Better still, there are football pitches behind the square that can be used for that purpose.

The Independence Arch is part of the Black Star Square/ Independence Square in Accra which contains monuments to Ghana's independence struggle, including the Independence Arch.
National and monumental events are held here graced by the President when it is important to address the country. It has the sitting arrangement of a stadium.
Tends to be crowded as tourists who visit the Independence Square cross over to see the arch as well.
