I can't think of a better all round pub than the Fetherston Arms. The food is of a very high standard and hits the table piping hot. Not microwave hot, properly cooked through hot. The food is obviously freshly cooked just before delivery to the table, not prepared in advance and kept in a hot plate.

The portions are generous without being over facing and the presentation is really good as well .

Service from entering the pub, throughout the whole dining experience is great without being intrusive, and did not feel like a bored, routine approach.

The pies are the star for me, but there are many excellent dishes across the menu.

The only challenge in Kirk Oswald is parking, but do not let that put you off.
Make the effort to visit, you won't regret it.

We had dinner on "pie night". Good variety and all taste great. Good helpings too. I was too full for desert but my family's desserts looked lovely also. Very reasonably priced. Staff very helpful and friendly.

we came here for a sunday pub lunch (we didn't stay in the hotel) and were really impressed with both the food and the service.
there were two vegetarians and one vegan with us (and one meat eater) and all of us loved our food.
we had the roast, vegan pie, and macaroni cheese.

all of the servers were so lovely and friendly and the good was great too. huge portions. i would recommend booking in advance if you want to sit in the beer garden or inside - we turned up unannounced and sat outside in the front, which was still lovely.

dog friendly.

We turned up on the off-chance, and we really should have booked. They were fully booked but we sat outside and they took care of us. We were only hoping to get our daughter a meal but they ensured we all had a meal. The food was great, the service excellent. We will book next time!

We had Sunday lunch here and it was fantastic!! Great portion sizes and very tasty.
They also had a great selection of wine too and the guy behind the bar ( possibly the landlord?) was very welcoming.

Amazing food, and the service was good. It was a very busy night, but still, the service was good. I went with my family for birthday celebrations and it did not disappoint. Have been a few times now, and I would highly recommend!

We did not stay here. We came for pie night. Arguably the best pies in Cumbria. I had the ham and leek pie and it was delicious. I sent a photo to my friends back in Canada and they basically called it a "heart attack on a plate". True, but what a way to go! Beer selection is good too. Totally recommend.

5 weeks on the road in the motorhome and I didn’t fancy cooking my evening meal. Found myself not far from Kirkoswald, a quick Google and the Fetherston Arms sounded good for a visit and food.
I received a lovely warm welcome and despite the tables being fully booked the landlady very kindly found me and my dog a table. The locals were also very friendly and they all recommended the food as being excellent.
I ordered the Black pudding and Haggis tower for starters and the trio of sausages with mustard mash for main course. The starter was delicious and quite a large portion, great value for money. The main was also extremely tasty, I’d have preferred a bit more mustard in the mash, but I’m being picky, the meal was excellent.
A lovely atmosphere in the pub, and I could have happily stayed all evening drinking and chatting more with the locals, but I needed to find somewhere to park up in the motorhome for the night, parking in the village is a bit of a nightmare.
I highly recommend The Fetherston Arms Hotel and would gladly visit again.

We went with our two children and sat outside the front with our pints and J2Os. It's a great spot in the afternoon for watching the world go by in Kirk Oswald. The bar lady was friendly and attentive and we enjoyed chatting with her. Hope we have a chance to come back again.

We booked a table for a Sunday whilst travelling through. The first thing we noticed was how well presented the pub is and welcoming the staff are. It made us feel welcome right away.
Secondly the offering on a Sunday was the full menu which was great when you have small children so we were able to try more of the menu, a nice touch. Dog friendly.
As many other reviewers have said the pies are very good but the other dishes coming out were also superb to look at!
Really lovely place, well worth a visit.

All I can say is the pies are to die for! And the Toad in the hole off the kids menu was fantastic. Fantastic and the staff were brilliant. Highly recommended as we travelled 30mins by car to have a meal and so pleased we did!

Traditional pub in the middle of a lovely little village.

We ate here on a busy Saturday evening and found everyone to be very helpful and friendly, very much a local feel and we were welcomed warmly.

Menu is great, something for everyone's tastes including vegan and vegetarian options if that's your thing.

Food was genuinely exceptional. A very high end gastro pub feel, large but not excessive portions and very reasonably priced.

Couldn't fault a single thing and we'll be back without a shadow of a doubt.

You MUST book a table for their pie night on a Thursday. It was the best meal we have had in a very long time.

The portions were generous, super fresh and completely delicious. Dessert was also incredible.

Service was great even though they were fully booked and all rushed off their feet.

I cannot recommend this place enough.

Fitted us in despite being busy. Nice place. Amazing food. Apart from the local Thai near to us, this was the nicest eating out meal I have had in a very long time. Home made Homity Pie. Hubby said the same about the chicken roast. Thoroughly recommended stopping in.
